Backup created is ridiculously larger then original

Thread needs solution

Hello All,
I am using True Image Home 2011 to make a backup of my photos that are in 'raw' format. They are stored on a Windows 7 64bit system and the backup is to a 1tb external drive. Both are formatted as NTFS.
The original size of the folder is just over 1GB, yet the backup file was 85GB. I used a full backup with the highest compression. Anyone know why this would happen? Also, could someone suggest what would be the best way to handle the backup of these files. I don't add to the raw photos to often, but when I do I would like to add to the backup on the external drive.
Thanks

John,

The first thing you want to do is triple check your file selection for backups: check in the ATI UI, and also open the archive with windows explorer (double click on it) to inspect which folders are actually included.

If you used highest compression on some specific compressed format files you might end up having a backup archive slightly bigger than the original but:
- that wouldn't apply to RAW
- the difference wouldn't be that high :-)
