Backup - Differential

Thread needs solution

I am using AHTI2010 on Win 7x64. I have a folder that I use for images, I did a full backup a few weeks ago. I came back from a trip, added about 3 gigs of images to the folder. I went to back up as a differential last night, and it took almost an hour; it basically did another full backup to the external HD! This is not a disk that I format frequently, at least not since I installed this new version. I do a split backup so I can make a redundant backup by coping it to DVD's. This was never an issue in Home 10. If this is how it works with differential backups, I am sunk when it comes to making disks, way too much waste. Am I missing something in the process, thanks.

Perhaps I may be not understanding your situation correctly.

In order for differential to be created, the full backups or its base backup must be in the same folder and the differential must pont to the base as its target.

Should I just choose Differential, will it make the first full backup, and then the subsequent are differential? I choose Full, and on the second backup I changed it to Differential, was that the wrong sequence? So, the last backup that I choose as Diffenetial, is that a "Full" backup of those files, and from now on the backups will be Differentials?
