Backup to DVD

Thread needs solution

I would like to create an additional backup on DVD just in case my external hard drive fails at the same time my system drive fails, which recently happened to me unfortunately. What is the recommended way to do this?

I do this on occasion. I create my backup task to backup my full disk to an external hard drive, but have Acronis split the backup files into chucks by selecting "disk backup options" during the task creation process. Select "backup splitting" and choose "4.7 GB (DVD)" and the backup will run and create .tib files that will fit onto a single layer DVD disk. I then burn each file to a DVD using my disk burning software (Imgburn). When I need to restore this backup, I copy the files from all the DVD's to a single folder on an external drive and then use Acronis to"Browse for Backup" and add it to the list of backups so that I can restore it. This method has not failed me. You can also choose to backup directly to DVD's, but I have found this not to be reliable. Also, restore is possible directly from the DVD's if necessary, but is not as smooth as restoring the copied files from an external drive.
