Backup Entire Disk: Windows or Linux?
Disclaimer: I am sure my question has already been answered before but I cannot for the life of me find the search button, or find relevant threads using Google!
I am only interested in making a full backup of an entire disk. As a result, is it best to use the recovery media linux boot environment to make and validate an entire disk image, or Windows? My assumption is Linux is the better option.
Firstly, there is much less to go wrong. We all know how easy it is for Windows to crash, esp when an intense process starts. Second, I read in the user guide that .tib's created using Windows are not always readable using the recovery media. I'm going to assume this is because Windows uses it's native NTFS support while the recovery media uses proprietary drivers to read and write, so would it not be best to use the same system for backup and recovery, thus negating this problem? Afterall recovery of a system partition happens in Linux regardless.
Thirdly Acronis would not have to navigate around backing up files in use.
The user guide suggests when backing up and restoring individual partitions (not system) to use Windows as the drivers are better, but aslong as the drivers 'work', is the only negative that Linux might take longer to achieve the same objective?
Footnote: I find the user guide quite refreshing. Honest, straight forward manual for people with some degree of technical knowledge. Good job.
