Backup failure with screen freeze

Thread needs solution

I started an Acronis backup last night on my Windows XP computer, figuring it would have finished by this morning. Today, however, I couldn't get the screen to unblank--and my backup USB drive was still flashing. I finally unplugged the drive and manually turned off the computer. I turned it back on, and it seems to be working.

I gather from the event log that the backup was not completed, but I don't know why. (I tried to paste the log here, but most of it appeared not to show up.)

Any suggestions for what I should do next?

Thank you!

Thank you, Yana! I think the problem was my hard drive failing. I also had trouble the next day trying to copy my datafiles to a DVD. I ran CHKDSK/R, and today Acronis was able to clone my drive. I know I need to install a new one soon.
