Backup File name(s) (TIB) do not match Backup Job Name

Thread needs solution

I am backing up Daily to an external hard drive, - Backup Job were called, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc... - Through Sunday.

They will run for a short period of time, but then the TIB file gets changed to something like
LocalDisk(c)_FHASKAKSK.tib

It's adding extraneous data to the end.

I have the Job Setup as a SINGLE CHAIN, OVERWRITE

Any ideas?

It looks like ATI is loosing track of some previous backups. You probably see a temporary file that is created by ATI before it erases a previous backup. Normally, the new back up file is created, then, if the operation succeeds, the previous backup is erased and the temporary file is renamed appropriately. If these file operations don't work for some reason, ATI leaves everything in place and the temporary TIB file gets a funny name.

Why do you have a different task for each day? Why don't you have a single daily task?

Just curious. I am assuming that the type of backup is a full backup each time each task runs?

Thank You - More Detail...

We do FULL IMAGES, (ENTIRE DRIVE) 7 days a week... - and want those 7 different images for Archiving sake..., and just having multiple copies.

Most of our customers have TWO external Hard Drives, and will swap them out at the end of a week, and take the other one off site. This is usually when it happens.

So I am thinking that it's because the actual jobs are being sent to TWO different destinations.... and TIH is losing track of them.

The backups are running, but the hard drive is filling up because teh names are now unique...

Is there any fix for this? - An EASY fix?

Thanks!

PS... We use Acronis Server products exclusively for our Server Customers and TIH for our Residential Clienst - we've been using Acronis for 7+ years now...

Steve,
TIH tracks its backups via disk serial so you are correct in that the issue that the database is becoming confused.

You can set up different backup tasks for each different external disk so the task is mated to the specific storage disk.
You could set up the backup schemes as illustrated in this link maintaining whatever number you wish.
see Figure 11-full
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28705

Or, it is also possible to change the serial number on one disk so both externals have the same disk serial. This would allow the switching but still have some issues such as manual deletion, etc.

This could easily be achieved using Chain2Gen (C2G) which is a helper program for TrueImageHome (TIH). C2G was written by forum contributor MVP Oracledba

TrueImage runs the tasks which does the scheduling and creates the backups, whereas, C2G provides the controls on when the full backup should be created. or how many to be retained. C2G offers many choices. Two tasks still needed to handle two backup disks.

If interested, click on my signature index below (or my guides (index) listed under the Useful Links option along the left Window margin) and select items 5-B & 5-A within the index reference.

With C2G, each backup would be in its own folder and the folders would work like an escalator. Once a quota reached, as a new backup added, the oldest dropped off with a fixed number in retention.
