Backup File Quite Smaller Than The Drive Being Backed Up

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I recently installed a fresh copy of WinXP with necessary programs on C: drive, and it "weights" around 10GB, but the backup file of the mentioned drive is only around 5GB. The only parameter I modified during the backup process is the archive spliting, by putting the partition limit of a DVD size. It created 2 partitions, one 4,33GB other 1,08GB. I use Acronis True Image Home 2009.

Would appreciate help very much!

It compresses the files and it does not save everything. For instance the swap file is not saved. But you should always validate your backup after you create it. My WinXP has 17 GB on the disk and about 6 as backup.

I was doing it for the first time, don't have mush experience though...
Thank you very much John.
Cheers!

If you need to restore these, you will need to have both files in the same folder.

If a need to recreate a new disk, the type of backup that offers the best chance with the fewest problems is to make sure when doing your backup that you checkmark the disk rather than single specific partitions. Single partition backups can be restore but if moving to a new disk, it is better to have all partitions included in the backuip. Your system may only have one partition so this information is to call your attention to need to include all partitions if your system has multiple partitions.
