backup file size

Thread needs solution

The size of my backup .tib files has been reduced by half. I just downloaded an upgrade (patch) build 6857. I did a normal image of my C: drive (Full) and a data backup (file backup-Full) of a portable drive. In both cases, the resulting backup files are about half the size of the previous backup files. What happened? Is this the result of the "upgrade" (patch)? This creates a crisis of confidence, not knowing what this program is doing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jay, open the backup list in ATI, right click on operations, edit backup settings. What is your backup scheme?

Thanks for replying, Pat. My backup scheme is the same one I have used for quite some time with this program. It is "Custom" Full Backup. Compression is "Normal." I cannot understand what changed. My earlier backups were running about 54 GB ... Now, about 26 GB. I suppose that, when I downloaded the update (Build 6857) something might have happened to increase the compression. If they provide release notes on these upgrades, I don't know where they are. BTW: I am a tech writer.

Enable view hidden files and protected system files in Window explorer, and double click on a big and on a small archive file. See if there is a file difference: maybe the system volume information folder, the restore data, or the hiberfil.sys or pagefile.sys (if it is turned on) is now excluded, or maybe the sector by sector setting was changed...
I can only think about a setting change.
