Backup freezes at 624MB

Thread needs solution

OK. Laptop is Toshiba Satellite, win 8.1
Trying to back up entire PC.
Back up starts, I see activity on external drive, backed up files count up to 624 MB then nothing.
There is 75GB on my PC.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I assume you are doing Full Disk and not a File backup. 1st step for me would be to run a chkdisk on the source drive to ensure it has no wonky spots? Win 8 does much of this stuff automatically now but somethimes it needs a little help.

To begin the scan, right-click on the Drive which you wish to check and select Properties. Next, click on Tools tab and under Error checking, click on the Check button. This option will check the drive for file system errors.

Or follow these more detailed instructions for a thorugh scan;

The /R parameter is the key one-- it forces a scan of disk sectors and tries to move data from any bad ones to good sectors and then marks the bad sectors so the file system won't try to use them anymore.
