Backup keeps getting stuck
This is a really frustrating program to use. I purchased version 11 when it first came out and tried to use it at first but quickly gave up because it is not at all intuitive.
For the last week I have made numerous attempts to do an important backup. There are actually 2 issues, make that 3.
1. I will get 2/3 of the way thru a backup and it will provide an error along the lines of "file open" which I can tell it to ignore. Then it just sits there with no progress for hours.
2. The progress bar acts like it is still doing something, but it is really annoying that you cannot really tell if it is actually working. How can it be working if it stays at 53% for 3 hours, yet I cannot see if it is actually progressing through actual files
3. Why is it so darn slow?

TIH 2011, Update 1 (Build 6597) with the Plus Pack, run through Windows 7, 64 bit.
I trying to back up files and folders and I am backing it up to an external drive connected via USB.
I don't recall the exact type of file, but I think it was a temp file from an open program. Odd that it cannot be set up to just skip those and move on.

You can add file and folder exclusions to your task - click on the Add label just under the task, or exclude files globally under the 'options' tab.
It might point to the problem if you can see what program owns the open file.
As for slowness, this could be a SNAPAPI problem which is the DLL that interfaces TIH to the Windows file manager system, it could also be a hardware problem.
Do you have any card readers or graphics tablets attached?
Is your USB drive attached through an external hub or directly to the computer?
If your USB drive is attached to a front panel USB port, try it on a rear direct to motherboard port, also check that the drive is running as USB2.0/3.0 not due to a glitch running as v1.1 .
