Backup NAS to 2 alternating USB HD's

Thread needs solution

I have a shared NAS drive I need to make daily backup's of.

The idea is to use the new small USB HDD's Seagate and others are selling.
I have 2 of the Seagate 1TB drives.
Each day I will swap out the drives and always bring one or the other home at night.

In the schedule, there there is not an option for every other day, only Daily.

Should I create two back up schemes for daily and slightly different scheduled times and let one fail each night?

Seeing a similar post earlier today about 2 removable hot swap drives got me thinking about the issues I may run into with the TI log not matching what was on each of the drives.

Thank you,
Rich

You should create separate backup tasks for each drive. Assign each drive a unique letter and name, so you will be able to distinguish them both from Windows and from the Linux-based Acronis True Image bootable Recovery Media.

You're welcome.

I do something similar, rotating use of two external HDs for backups (although I back-up my PC, not an NAS). Rotated drives with on always off-site is excellent redundancy.

I got the drives setup and cloned the settings from the backup I've been testing with to make two backups and changed the destination to direct to each of the two drives.
So now, I have two scheduled backups. One goes to the Blue USB drive and the others goes to the Red USB drive.
The two USB drives have separate drive letters assigned (X & Y) along with the their respective color names, Blue and Red.

I do have a question though.
I have it setup so it shuts the computer down after the back up and to run in silent mode so it won't cancel the back up if it encounters an error. (We occasionally have a user that leaves their computer on and forgets to exit out of a document.)
I currently, have the two backups set to start at the same time of night.
Only one of the two drives will be connected, so one of the backups will fail since the destination drive will not be accessible.

I'm wondering if the backup that fails will shut off the computer before the other one completes the task?
If not, then will having the two set to start at the same time cause problems in the program trying to do two things at once?
