Backup not completing with a "Failed to exclusively access backup" error

Thread needs solution

Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help. I have been having issues with Acronis for a couple of months now, with constantly failing backups. I have tried everything I can think of, including getting rid of the old backups and starting with a fresh differential backup scheme, which runs nearly all the way through, and then fails with the above error, after which it starts to try to run the backup again. I am at my wits' end now, as I have reached the limits of my competency.

Has anyone got any ideas what I can do, I have a system report and log files available if needed?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Loonybean, welcome to these user forums.

Some questions first:  What build of ATIH 2015 do you have (shown on the Account page)?  Latest is 6613.

What are you backing up and where are you backing up to, i.e. local, external or network drive?

If you Acronis System Report is less than 20MB in size, then please post it to the forum using the File attachments option shown below the Comment box.  Note: the system report including all the log files.

Please also see post: 119938: Failed to exclusively access <path to an other backup-location>... during consolidation ?!? where another user reported a similar problem with this error message.

I ran into this as a bug in the beta testing of 2017.  It turned out (for me) the backup was actually successful and the logs confirmed this.  However, when the cleanup task kicked in (consolidation), it was having trouble doing this on backups located on my NAS.  Ultimately, this was a bug that was fixed in the final release of 2017 and not something I had experienced in 2015/2016.  I only point it out to see if your logs show the backup actually completing, but failing to "cleanup" as well.  OR, if you have validation turned on as part of the backup script, disable the validation and see if it runs successfully.  If it does, then manually validate the backup outside of the automated backup task and see if it completes the validation that way.

Hi there, thanks for answering so promptly. I am running the latest build of TIH 2015, 6613. I have tried to upload the system report, which is 19Mb, but I am getting an error saying the file is too large. I will try the workaround you gave me first Bobbo, as it seems to be the easiest to implement. If that fails, I will try the one you linked to Steve, and I'll report back. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Hi there. Solved the problem, it was the database issue alluded to in the post you linked me to Steve. Thanks very much for your help guys :)

Thanks for the feedback, always good to know what solves these problems.
