Hey Stevie,

It looks like you have issues with the SNAPAPI drivers, an Acronis utility.
- export your backup settings,
- uninstall ATI,
- use the clean up utility found here http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545 (choose the one corresponding to your ATI version, 2011 or 2012)
- reboot
- reinstall ATI

Hi Pat, thank you very much for your prompt reply.
It is Acronis True Image Home 2012 Plus Pack Build 6131 that I am using on a Win XP Pro Service Pack 3 AMD system.
I have followed your instructions and exported my settings. I then tried a windows uninstall which failed but removed Acronis from the installed applications list.
I then followed your link and downloaded ATIH_CleanUp_2012.exe but when I run the file a black DOS type screen appears for about 3 seconds then disappears then a blue screen appears for about 3 seconds and also disappears.
I then rolled back my system 1 day and the app reappeared on the installed application list.
I then re tried the CleanUp utility again with the same result and have run the application install file and tried all 3 available options to no avail.
I have a copy of Revo Ininstaller for removing problematic applications, could this be the answer?
Can you please explain what, if anything, I am doing wrong??
Once again I thank you for your efforts and would really appreciate any further help
Yours desperately
Steve

Stevie,

Try to install the snapapi driver version 640 here. http://kb.acronis.com/content/1515 The link is under the "Disks are not detected" paragraph.

Hi Pat, thanks again for your help so far Before I read your snapapi driver post I seem to have solved the problem. As I mentioned in my previous post, I had tried the repair option from running the main installation file but it did not work. In desperation I tried this again but this time right clicked the file and ran it as an administrator, clicked on the repair option and it completed the operation. I then imported the settings that you advised me to save, ran the backup and hey presto .... it appears to have worked perfectly five times so far. I will keep going for a bit longer and then try a restore on to a spare drive to make sure it works properly then report back here.

Thanks again Pat

Steve

Hi Pat, just a quick update and I'm afraid it's all bad news. After literally dozens and dozens of hours trying to get this software to work I am now about to throw this damn program in the bin try Nova or something else. I have got a brand new 500 gig removable sata backup drive, I have performed full CHKDSK about 50 times on the drive I'm trying to backup and I have tried disconnecting the internet, turning off Kaspersky and every other tsr it's possible to turn off but still, time after time when I run atih the time it reports to do the job just keeps going up and up to about 10 or 12 days then it eventually just hangs my computer. The drive that I am trying to backup is a single 750 gig partition with 250 gig used, my question is, is atih capable of doing this job or am I just wasting my time.

Once again Pat, thank you very much for any further help.

Steve

Stevie,

The problem with imaging software is that it is very close to the hardware (as close as Windows itself). So you are never sure that it will work on a given computer because of hardware configurations or other software conflicts.

If ATI detects any disk issue, it will go into sector by sector mode and the backup will take a very long time. We have seen several cases where ATI saw an issue with the disk that chkdsk didn't report, but that a manufacturer diag utility reported. Your mileage will vary.

A good way to try is to backup through the recovery CD. That takes software conflicts out. But it increases the risk of issues with hardware. That said, if the recovery CD doesn't see your disks and backups (although it will most certainly use other drive letters to show them), you can safely backup. Of course, this assumes your disk is healthy.
