Backup Protection - NOT!

Thread needs solution

So I image a partition with 400GB of data, and under the Advanced tab of Disk Backup Options, choose Backup protection with AES 256 encryption and a strong password. I set the backup to high priority/performance, validate, and leave it overnight. In the morning, it's finished.

So I click on the tib file, lo and behold, the tib file opens and I can see and read all the files! No password required!!

I try to mount the image, and it asks for a password, as it should.

So what's going on here? I expected no access of any type to the image without the password.

Thanks!

Andros,

Have you tried to click on the encrypted tib file after restarting Windows on your system?  I suspect that Windows or Acronis had stored the credentials for the tib file in memory from having just created it.

Which version of ATIH are you using?

Hi Steve,

That's exactly what it was! It didn't occur to me since mounting required the password, but in retrospect, it makes perfect sense that ATI was mounting the drive, while windows was opening the container file. Good call - thanks!
