Backup & Restore Acronis True Image Echo Server Job configs

Thread needs solution

Hi. I have an Acronis True Image Echo Server installation on a Windows 2003 SBS Server. For whatever reason, Acronis hangs when launching the user interface (all backup jobs run fine in the background) but I am unable to add, modify or remove backup jobs due to the user interface hanging the server.

I have attempted both a repair, and also an update to the most recent build version. The repair install does not resolve the problem & the update fails.

For these reasons I would like to completely uninstall Acronis then reinstall it. So my question is:-

Is there a way to backup the existing job configs prior to uninstallation the restore them after re-installation so I don't have to recreate all the job configs & schedules from scratch?

Hello Craig,

We will do our best to solve the issue you experience with Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows. First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products.

If the issue persists completely reinstall Acronis True Image Echo Server for Windows using the following KB article

Please note that all your schedule tasks are saved in a file by the following directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImage\Scripts

You may copy this file and paste to the appropriate directory of the newly installed full version of the program.

Let us know the results.

Thanks for your response Dmitry. I attempted to remove Acronis via Add/remove Programs, but this had the same effect as launching the Acronis user interface ie: hanging the server. So I removed Acronis manually, & reinstalled the latest build then replaced the All Users\ApplicationData\Acronis folder from the old install. This has not resolved the problem, & in addition the backup jobs are now not running.

I checked the link about removing Acronis manually & I see that I neglected a couple of steps, so I will attempt this again at the next opportunity and report back. Feel free to offer anything else in the meantime. Thanks.

I have now completely manually uninstalled Acronis Echo Server as per the KB article, & installed build 8393. It installs OK and the UI will launch but as soon as I attempt to browse for a location to create a backup archive the explorer shell of the server again hangs. No amount of "end tasking" via task manager gets me back any control of the UI. I cannot "end task" either of the Acronis processes, or even shutdown the server cleanly. I'll be happy to do whatever I can to assist in troubleshooting this issue.

By the way, replacing the AllUsers\ApplicationData\Acronis\Scripts folder does restore the job configs but their scheduling is no longer in place. If I could somehow restore the scheduling information I feel that at least the jobs might run OK in the background (as they did prior to the manual uninstall) & I could just avoid using the Acronis UI till that issue can be resolved.

I would like an answer to the scheduling issue too. It seems like every time you update, install patches, etc. that the jobs become "unscheduled". Every time I talk to Tech Support the response is always the same. "Delete all jobs and recreate from scratch". I, and I would guess Craig, have a lot of time involved in creating and scheduling the backups. To have to recreate the jobs every time you touch Echo Server is very, very annoying.

I have been working on the Sector 63 issue. I upgraded from build 8353 to 8398. Everything seemed to go smooth but ... the scheduled jobs no longer run. Doesn't Acronis have some kind of utility to reschedule jobs located in AllUsers\ApplicationData\Acronis\Scripts folder?
