Backup Taking Too Much Space

Thread needs solution

I am backing up 14GB hard disk but the backup has taken more than 50GB.

I have not selected "backup sector by sector" option.

Himanshu,

You probably have some folder or partition included by default. Very often, for file backups, users notice that the entire "Documents" folder is automatically included by default (but the selection can be changed).

Actually, I noticed that it showing in the source that my partition is using 55 GB of 55GB but actually it is taking only 13GB of 55GB.

Run "chkdsk X: /r" from a command prompt (substituting "X" with the drive letter that has the problem). There could be some problems on the drive that could cause the misreporting of the used space on the drive in Acronis.

What is the partition you are trying to back up. Is it Windows, Linux, etc. How is it formatted, NTFS, FAT, FAT32,ext3, etc.?

It is Windows partition formatted with fat32 file system.

I'm sure the reason Acronis is backing up the entire partition is becasue of the problem with the partition being recognized as "RAW" (even by the chkdsk utility), but I can't offer a fix for that though. Maybe someone else can jump in here and help you.
