Backup time with cd

Thread needs solution

Use TI 10
If I do a full backup and boot with the Acronis CD a full backup of my disk with 35GB it will take 4 hours.
If I do the same backup but after win xp has loaded and all my other stuff like antivirus running, it will only take 30 minutes.

I would have thought this should be the other way around.

No, usually Windows is faster. The boot CD runs Linux and it may not have the correct drivers for your hardware. If it doesn't it may, for example, run an external USB 2.0 disk at USB 1.0 speeds.

Acronis recently released an alternate boot CD for TI Home version 10. It may have better hardware support. You can download a copy by logging into your account on the Acronis web site. See this post: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/9260

My experience indicates a typical backup with the CD takes very, and I emphasize very, roughly 2-3 times longer than within Windows.

A speedy backup is one of the several very attractive options when using Mustangs PEBuilder.
The advantage of booting from a CD (or thumbdrive or usb drive) and get the speed of a normal Windows backup. I have both his 2009 and 2010 version and both work great.

Hello all,

K0LO, Seekforever and GroverH, thank you very much for your assistance.

Ray, let me shed some more light on the problem. The most probable reason of the issue is that you've tried to back up NTFS partition or some files from it. Windows has a native NTFS support, however, our bootable CD is Linux-based, so we have to use an additional NTFS to access that partition, and it may significantly increase the backup time.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Yes, I do have NTFS partition.
So is it OK just to do the backup thru Windows, the time savings would be great. Is my backup just as good with windows as if I used the boot cd as long as the validation saids its good.
Thanks
