Backup to USB 3.0 Stick somtimes not working.
I do a daily backup from my outlook folders to an USB 3.0 Stick. Sometimes I get an error message that the Task cannot find the target and failed. After that I have no access to that USB stick and I cannot disconnect it anymore. The led from USB stick flashes continuous and I must reboot the system to fix the problem. Much less common there is a blue screen 7F and the security system restarts. I try to change to the latest drivers and bios but can't fix it. Most of the time it works without error. I use an ASUS M4A87TD with 8 Gbyte of Ram, AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU and Windows 7 SP1 x64. If I use an USB 2.0 stick everything is fine (but slow...).
Anybody else with that problem and maybe solved?
Thank you in advance
Ulrich Krause (sorry for that English, I'm German... ;-) hope you can understand)

The backup fails during the backup so there is an incomplete file that is smaller than the normal file. It happens sometimes between 60 and 90%. I use this stick also for a backup of my online banking software without problems and normally with the explorer to save important license files, certificates etc., but only True Image home failed sometimes. The drivers are up to date because I know about a problem with standby mode and the NEC USB 3.0 chipset.

Sound like a thermal problem with your USB3.0 stick that occurs after using the stick a certain time continuously. Your other backups are smaller and therefore are finished in less time.
Have you tried to perform a full disk test using h2test [1] or a similar program?

i have a brand new satech usb 3.0 hub and a seagate usb 3.0 external drive. My Acronis true image backup V 11.0 is constantly choking when i have the drive attached to USB 3 port. Totally unusable.
no problem when i go thru usb 2.0
I got the USB 3 mostly for fast backups - very frustrating

1. Your post has nothing to do with this thread. If you have an issue, start your own thread.
2. Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

linzynj,
Version 11 does not support usb 3 and will not transfer at usb3 speeds.
You need hardware disk controllers capable of supporting usb3 speeds.
Which version of Windows?
When you attach the usb3 disk and copy files from the computer onto another drive, does the transfer work at usb3 speeds? If yes, then "maybe" the new version 2014 will work for you at usb3 speeds. The 30 day free 2014 trial version is availble which can be used to check your transfer speeds.
Should you want to install and try the new version, be sure and uninstall the version 11 and also be sure to have a current full disk backup as a fallback in case you decide you want to revert back to version 11.
When working with Acroinis and usb3, a direct connect between disk and computer produces better results (less issues) than when attempting to use hub.

Tuttle: Sorry to insult your sensitivities, but its the closest i could find - It is about acronis and usb 3 - right?.
Grover: I am using windows 7. Thanks for the info. It worked ok when i eliminated the Satech hub and plugged directly into the port - but then why bother having a hub if it isnt usable?.
So I got rid of the Satech hub and bought a KDLINKS hub instead (gotta love amazon) and it seems to be working ok (so I would have to retract my Acronis complaint of my earlier post and blame Satechs hub). But I cant really tell how fast my data is.
I dont understand why its stated that Acronis doesnt support USB 3, wouldnt that be transparent to Acronis?
Truthfully though its not worth all the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling versions of acronis to see if I can get faster speed.

It's not about your issue. You should have created a new thread with an appropriate title, standard practice in any help forum.

Right, as I said.
linzynj wrote:but then why bother having a hub if it isnt usable?.
It's usable, just not necessarily for sustained throughput to bus-powered hard drives. An ATI backup or restore is a high-usage situation for a drive. The combination of sustained high bandwidth transfer and high power usage is likely too much stress for the hub, so the hub can't meet the needs of the drive.
