Backup Validated But Won't Restore

Thread needs solution

I have a separate internal data disk containing a little less than 3 TB's of irreplaceable data. I use Acronis True Image on a daily basis for backups. My data disk died a few days ago and I thought - no problem - my NAS-targeted backup ran successfully last night (according to the Acronis message I received). I bought a replacement 5TB disk and began the restore operation. After 18 hours of restore, I get a message stating "Recover Operation Failed" but no further explanation. After a little looking on the web, I then ran a backup validation operation. After about 12 hours, Acronis reports the validation was successful. Thinking the first time was a hiccup, I re-ran the recovery and 18 hours later came up with the same error message. Not feeling too good at this point.

So if the backup is claimed to be good, why won't it restore? What options do I have at this point? I do have one additional offsite backup I took on an external drive before I converted to Windows 10 so I might have one additional backup source, but I am concerned about the restoration. I mean what good is a backup if I can't restore it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

contact Acronis support, perhaps via live chat that you have a recovery problem.
Acronis advertises that they help with recovery--even with out warranty coveage.
You need to have your serial registered in your Acronis web account and indicate you have a recovery problem.

the issue could well be the 5tb. Do you have any other choices such as same size as original?

What os was the old? Was it MBR or GPT partitioning?

Thanks for the quick response. The drive that failed is a data drive only, but was originally created under Windows 7. I think it was MBR partitioning. The new one I formatted as GPT on the first attempt, then changed to MBR on the second attempt. The 5TB drive is brand new since the old one was about 90% full. I seem to be able to create files just fine on the new drive. I could always buy another drive, but I have no reason to believe the 5TB drive I have is bad.

I haven't been able to find any direct Acronis support. Their live chat function is grayed out as are the phone link. Maybe they're temporarily down?

As this is a DAta drive, one attempt would be to use the Add disk option and format as GPT to preserve your space.

Then restore as a files/folder restore rather than a partition restore.

Begin the access to Acronis via the upper right corner of this webpage.

Thanks again. You seem to be the expert in this space. I've used your useful guides before. Thanks for helping out everyone here. Will try Acronis chat support next. Just wish it didn't take 18 hours for each attempt.
