Backup validation Task execution failed

Thread needs solution

WHY am i getting this error EVERYTIME i boot up my computer after running a complete disk image back up?

Operation has failed
Backup validation Task execution failed

Go to your backup list, click on the Operations blue link, choose edit backup settings, choose the advanced tab. Unfold the validation segment. Click on the blue schedule link, unfold the advanced settings segment, uncheck the options there. Schedule the validation when you want it and when the backup location is active. If this is a network share, it might not be available immediately upon booting.

I'm getting the same message.
I tried what you suggested and no joy.

I have now deleted all my backups and restarted and get the same thing.

Download the Acronis Schedule manager and zap all your tasks.
Go to C:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts. You will see files with a key-like name there. Right click on them, choose edit and read the script. Verify that each of them is actually a task that you want ATI to run. Delete the scripts that look orphaned.

I have already deleted all my tasks.
The Schedule manager did nothing and the folder is already empty.

this program is rookie written crap.

I'm taking it off my computer before it does anymore damage.

Try to export your backup settings, uninstall the program, run the cleanup utility, reboot, reinstall and import your backup settings. For each backup task, verify under operations > edit backup options > advanced tab > validation that no validation is scheduled.

"WHY am i getting this error EVERYTIME i boot up my computer after running a complete disk image back up?

I log into this computer every day, and this started happening today whenever I start it. The last backup I did was about 2 weeks ago and haven't opened Acronis since then and haven't made any changes to the the computer during that time.

Do you have a fix that works?

Did you try the fix of poste 7?

Exact same problm here after installing Update 2 build 6857. "Backup validation task execution failed" error evry time I boot machine. I am not where the machine iat the moment so I can't immediately implement Pat L's suggestions. I figured that I would at least let you know that this is a more widespread issue than may be apparent as of yet. I would also like to state that I find it quite irritating that I have to perform so many actions in the hope that maybe the problem will go away. Is this a fix, or are we just troubleshooting?

It didn't work, so I uninstalled the program, cleaned the registry of any tidbits left of Acronis and reinstalled the program. This didn't fix the problem. It's happening on a laptop running win 7 64 bit.

The version I have installed is update 2 version 6857 also. Looks like a fix is needed for this version. Acronis, let us know when one is available.
Thank you.

Same problem here.... looks like the latest build fixed the horrendous "Operations in progress" (that required the old reset button to get out of!) but replaced it with this not-quite-as-annoying issue.

I think I'm getting the same/similar problem. I see a pop-up window that says:
"Operation has failed. Backup validation task execution failed
Description: Stage Description. See operation log for details."
When I go there I get confirmation that -- guess what? -- the operation failed.
I'm also running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.
I just bought this software a couple of weeks ago.

I am getting the same error. I use Windows 7 Prof. This is after cloning a disk and booting up from it. None of the suggested fixes work.

I'm getting the same error message. Only installed the latest build yesterday .. What a mistake that was! Would have thought Acronis would have got it right with this, doesn't inspire confidence does it ! (Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit user)

Can anyone tell my why validation takes WAY too long (10 hours to over a day) when set to auto-validate after a backup? If I do it manually, it takes about 30-35 minutes, which is normal for the amount of data I back up.

First ... the error message does not tell you which program it comes from. I had to google the message and it took me to this forum. Not a good practice.

Acronis: How about putting the program's name in the error message?

Second ... there is a "Do not schedule" button at the bottom of the "Schedule your operation" dialog in the Disk Backup Operations>Advanced tab>Validation>"Regular validation" (link) dialog. This changes the link to "Turn on regular validation," so I assume this means validation is off unless I enable it again or check the box, "Validate backup when it is created." [By the way, I did not notice this button on the first time I went into that dialog. The choice should have been set up as the 5th radio button on that dialog, not a separate button at the bottom of the window.]

Will that work to stop the message? (We'll see....)

The default validation scheme on my system was to schedule a validation monthly, and since I had moved some backup images to an external drive for archival purposes, then maybe the program could not find them and keeps popping the message when it tries to validate. (Just a guess.)

[Windows7/32bit, Acronis TI Home 2011 build 6857]

Barry_M,

Let us know if that solves the problem. ATI will try to validate the last and current on-going chain. So it doesn't try to validate all archive files.

Again...

Can anyone tell my why validation takes WAY too long (10 hours to over a day) when set to auto-validate after a backup? If I do it manually, it takes about 30-35 minutes, which is normal for the amount of data I back up.

Scott,

Did you actually verify that your validation runs for 10hours after a backup? Do no trust the time estimates of ATI.

No, but I let it run for several hours a few times. Either way, it's JACKED UP. When I manually validate it, which I am forced to do, it takes 30-40 min as usual... Oh well, I'm still in my 30 day return window, so I guess I'd better read up on the backup system in Windows 7, which I just installed... After ATIH 2009, 10.0 and, now, 2011, I think I'm done with them.

Scott,

That is weird and would point to a scheduler or script issue maybe from a conflict with an older version. Did you try to set up a new task and do you observe the same issue with a new task?

If yes, try uninstalling, run the Acronis Cleanup Utility (see Grover's True Image Guides), rebooting and reinstalling.

Pat, my backup is going to a USB hard drive and last night, I reformatted the drive on my computer and reinstalled Acronis. The version is 14.0.6857. The same problem occurred. This computer is using an Intel Core i5 CPU with 4 gigs of ram and is a 64 bit operating system.

I have the same version on another computer, and it has an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core processor with 7 GB ram and is a 64 bit operating system. The "operation has failed" popup does not occur when I boot this computer.

John,

I am running out of ideas. If I were in your situation, I would uninstall, use the clean up utility, clean up my registry for Acronis manually, delete files and folders related to Acronis and reinstall. It looks like there is a run something at startup that is a leftover.

Is one of your computer one where you had a previous version of Acronis installed?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No issues with older version conflicts. Only ATIH 2011 has been on this new i7 system, which I just built this week.

I'll try a new task because I believe I've just been changing the scheduled times and settings on the same one over and over. It's not like it's anything complicated. Just a whole system backup to a single external USB drive.

I'm going to have to trash this software, not only is that popping up every boot I now got the reappearance of the dreaded "operations are in progress", which sits there for hours on end doing nothing.
Why does it totally ignore the unticked "Validate backup when it is created" and the unticking of "Run the validation when only when idle" and "Missed validation: run at startup".... not to mention it ignores the "Save the settings as default" which means I have to enter the protection password and encryption method EVERY TIME I do a backup!!!!!!!!

It is pretty ridiculous isn't it, Renegade? It should just plain WORK...but it doesn't... Not even the most basic stuff. I just want to do a plain vanilla backup of my hard drive locally and have it verified when completed, but no... Not even using any fancy on-line or continuous back up... In fact, I'm afraid to even waste my time messing around with that stuff.

Thanks Pat L. Your suggestion to run the uninstall tool worked. You have to run the uninstall through windows first. After follow the instructions in post #7 and download the tool. After following all the different instructions, I was successful in removing the popup balloon. Hope that helps others.

Fixed mine.... by uninstalling and purchasing another product ;-)

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2011 with no luck. It still wants 10 hours to DAYS to complete a stupid verification of a straight, simple backup.

What other utility did you end up getting and does it actually WORK as advertised?

I had the same problem. So I removed 6857. No problem. I install 6696_ no problem. I have updated to 6857 the problem again
Now i have the problem again

Why would you "update" to an older build version when you weren't having problems with 6696?

This is the Acronis Cleanup Utility. Use with caution if you have other Acronis tools installed (eg Disk Director). Uninstalled any Acronis product before you use this utility.

This Problem is only with 6857. Uninstall 6857 and install 6857 again couldn´t help me. So I thought if I tried an old version (6696), I would see whether the Problem aviable or not
With 6696 is this Problem not aviable. It´s only aviable with 6857

Why would you "update" to an older build version when you weren't having problems with 6696? Above all 6857

Above all www.acronis.de/support/updates/index.html

New in this build (6857)

  • Windows 7 SP1 is now supported.   So I think 6696 is SP1 not supported. Is it?Is TIH2010 also suported Windows 7 SP1 or not?

Pat, I finally got the notice to go away by doing a windows uninstalling of accronis and then going to the acronis website and downloading the Cleanup Utility and running it.

I had to do a search for the cleanup utility on the acronis website to find it. You should make it easier to locate and be able to download and print out the instructions before it is downloaded.

Best regards

No, it not solve it. As soon as I booted my computer today, the popup message appeared again.

Oh, I see. Not only was it a different build number, it was an entirely different version of ATIH. I don't (at this point) know whether it's correct or not, but the customer service person who helped me from Acronis said 2010 or 10.0 wasn't compatible with Windows 7. A real bitch seeing as how I just bought/upgraded to 10.0 last year to run under XP and then decided to build a new computer with Windows 7...and it won't work...

Since I NEVER get any help/answers in new threads, I'll ask this here. Can you validate a back up archive that wasn't created on that computer? Say I back up a couple of laptops and try to validate those archives when I get the external USB drive back to my desktop... I have two laptops that I backed up and the validation went fine ON the laptops themselves (ATIH 10.0), but the archives both failed validation when I decided to try, just for kicks, on my desktop (ATIH 2011).

I think I have a temporery answer. With your help and hints I did so:I uninstalled ATI 2011 how written : http://kb.acronis.com/content/1487http://kb.acronis.com/content/14871
Then I intalled again. Before instal I hiddent all my backups oherwise came the Problem again
After install ATIH musn´t see some Backups in externall HDD
I make Disk buckups now with CD, so ATI can´t see them
I hope the firm acronis find the ANSWER SOON
I spent yesterday ant heute above 10 hours

Acronis Please help us!!!

I too get the same annoying error messages. I too am using build 6857 on a "new Dell 8300" with Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

I have also been experiencing some system crashes after running Acronis.

I am very dissappointed with Acronis TIH 2011 on Windows 7.
I was a loyal supporter of Acronis True Image version 9. It worked flawlessly for me on my old Dell 9150 running Win XP for over 4 years. Now that I have upgraded to Windows 7 and Acronis TIH 2011, .... it just doesn't work as well.
These issue must be fixed with a reliable updated version.

Until then, good-by TIH 2011.... I'm uninstalling you and will be resorting to Win 7 image backups.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 using Acronis True Image with Build 6857 caused this problem to appear. It had never appeared before. It showed up shortly after the installation of this build. I un-installed the Acronis, rebooted and the message went away. Installed the Build 6857 and the problem immediately reappeared upon booting without having done anything in Acronis.

Un-installed Acronis, downloaded the previous build 6696, rebooted the system and reinstalled Acronis build 6696 and the problem is fixed. The message is not there, however I do not know what is not supported with regards to Windows 7 SP1.

From what I have read above, I can only conclude that build 6857 has a problem when used with Win 7. I have the same "Operation Failed" message everytime I boot (Win 7 SP1, Intel Core I7). I paid for this program, and I don't feel like I should have to uninstall it and use some dubious "cleaner" to fix what the Acronis developers have messed up (I work in the software industry). Problems with software, particularly when you are trying to be compatible with Microsoft, are not unusual, but need to be addressed if the company intends to keep its customer base. I am going to give Acronis a period of time to find their coding problem/incompatibility or whatever it is. I won't wait forever. Let's see a patch or new build ... sooner, rather than later. There are other products I can buy.

EXACTLY. That's why I requested and was approved for a full refund.
