Backup of a Win95 Drive to run on a virtual machine

Thread needs solution

I used the True Image Home software to create a full backup file of an old Win95 drive.

I disconnected the drive from the old Libretto and connected via a USB adapter to my desktop. From there I ran Acronis to create a tib file of the old drive. However, when trying to create a virtual machine from the tib file, it fails. I receive an error, "Failed to open virtual machine: Failed to query source for information."

Please advise on how I can create a virtual machine running the old Libretto OS and applications.

Thank you in advance,
Andrew

Create a new virtual machine, boot it from TI recovery cd, restore. Place the backup where bootable cd can see while running in the VM - on the network share, another virtual disk or external usb drive if the virtualization software shows the host's usb devices to VMs.

Thank you for the response. But what is a "TI recovery cd"? Are we talking about an iso image of the Acronis emergency boot disk?

Thanks again,
Andrew

I'm using VMWare Player. I open the VM, set for Windows Other. It detects the Acronis Boot Disk in my drive. Acronis loads to the splash screen. However, after I launch it just goes to a blank screen and does nothing.

I've tried several times, and get the same result. Do I need to perhaps 'lie' and tell VMWare Player that I'm running a higher version of Windows?

That was it. The default config for Win95 didn't have enough resources allocated to run Acronis. I bumped it up and then Acronis would run. After that the loading of the TID file went smoothly. (I had to run through a bunch of device dialogs, installs, and restarts, but it all went fine.)

Thank you for the tip.

Regards,
Andrew
