Backup from Windows or Boot/ Rescue Disk

Thread needs solution

Is it better to backup your hard drive from Windows or using the Boot/Rescue disk? Are the results the same? Don't you have to run Restore fom the Boot/Rescue disk?

You can do backups from within windows, even full harddisk backups that include the windows partition and you can keep working in windows while backing up (although the pc will slow down appreciably).  Making backups while in windows has never been one of ATI's weak points. I have done virtually all my backups this way for years without adverse incident.

Restores are done from within Linux. If you start your backup in windows, ATI  will reboot you into linux to run the restore. If you boot from the cd you will boot into linux. I prefer booting from the cd for restores as this this doesn't muck with the boot routine in windows as it doesn't invovle the Recover Manager -- one of the historically troublesome portions of code in ATI. More importantly, if your harddisk goes south, you will only be able to restore using the boot disk, so you will want to know that it works  on your pc and the only way to know that is to do a restore from the cd

So, I recommend: backup from windows; restore from CD.
