Backups fail probably due to lack of space but cannot delete old backups

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2015.
I have a backup scheme that is incremental with a full image every fice days. The back up now fails and I think this is becuase my C; drive is 252Gb and the external drive only has 204Gb of space

I know that one is not meant to simply delete old images via explorer, but I can find no way to delete them. There is no "management console".

Am I missing something? How do I delete old back up setting and images and start afresh?

You could try changing the backup's settings to only keep a certain number of chains or increments. In order to do that, from the TI console choose the backup in question, and then operations->edit settings->options. The settings you should be looking for can be found on the second tab (backup scheme). At the bottom of the main panel there is a link to "turn on automatic cleanup". Click on that and choose what suits you most. I keep only the last 3 chains myself. My understanding is that for the new settings to take effect it's not enough to just save the new settings; you'll need to perform a backup with them.

2015 Acronis provides no methods of deletion of pieces of backups.
If the backup is full plus incremental, the presence of ALL incrementals is ncecessary in order to restore the most recent incremental.

So your ony real deletion choice is keep them all; or delete all incremental keeping the full; or delete both all the inc and the full.
Deletion needs to be done via Windows Explorer using normal Windows file delete options.

Set up a new task using the backup scheme example GH12-using either full plus 4 inc (chain length=5 files) , full plus 5 inc (chain length=6).
Set the cleanup option "store no more than 'n recent version chains) to be how many CHAINS you wish to retain. Automatic cleanup (chain deletion) of the oldest chain will occur when your "store number is exceeded.
For example:
setting is full plus 4 inc (chain length -5)
Store no more than 4 chains which sets a quota of 4 chains to keep)
Automatic cleanup/deletion will automtically occur after backup 21 which will be after the 5th full.
Subsequent deletions will occur after each subsequent full so you have 4 chans at all times.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.
