Backups keeps Failing

Thread needs solution

I've been unable to create any backups for the last week and I keep getting various operation failures.
The typical being a mixture of:
. Failed to exclusively access backup
. Failed to open data stream

At one point the program seemed to look for drive path "I" that never existed (not doing that anymore thought)

I'm trying to create differential backups between 2 external drives and differential backups between my internal drive and a third external drive.
This was working fine until one week ago...

I've deleted previous backups and started new backups, tryied full backups, switched external hard drives etc...

The failed backup usually only contains between 40-50% of the data.

Windows 8.1 64bit
Lenovo Yoga pro
McAffee antivirus
Backup size:
.. 250G Internal drive to external
.. 1.5T External to external

Tried once more.
Now its: "Failed to read data from disk" (See below)
The Hard drive is brand new...

Tired multiple new times. Uninstalled - Reinstalled Acronis. Left the computer alone with no other application running during the backup etc...
I still keep getting the same error messages.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, or a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

Run chkdsk /r on each partition of the internal drive, and on the external HD. If there are hidden partitions, assign letters to them so you can chkdsk.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.
