Basic operation questions.

Thread needs solution

Hi, I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge in Acronis. At work we use Symantec. I purchased Acronis for home use. My issue is that I fear I do not have it set up properly because of the amount of space my backups are taking up on my external HDD.

I still have Microsoft backup enabled as another catastrophic failure solution.

When I open Acronis it shows 106G in the backups list but the folder on the drive is 160G. Cumulatively between Acronis and Windows the backups are actually taking almost 400GB of disk space. It must be how I have it set up.

Any details on how to clean this up and set up an efficient incremental backup is greatly appreciated.

rgds,
Russ

Need more info Russ--what is the "used space" of the hard drive(s) you are backing up? How many backups do you want to keep? Have you left "normal compression" in place?

For the computer I'm on right now, the System drive I backup uses 56GB and the image backups ATIH makes are about half that size. I keep 7 or 8 backups on a 320GB external drive, along with some other stuff incl 50GB free.

YMMV as "normal compression" won't help much if you have large videos or a large .jpg collection you're imaging for example. I keep that stuff on separate drives from my System drive(s), and back these up differently.
