Best backup strategy for 200GB stored on 500GB backup drive?
I upgraded to 2011 recently and thought I'd try the default "version chain scheme" to store my backups. It's not working out for me.
I have about 200GB of data that I'm backing up from my data drive to a dedicated "backup" drive, that is 500GB in size. The version chain scheme doesn't seem to adjust for the size of my drive. It looks like it's assuming I have unlimited space?
Anyway, what do people suggest for my particular size setup? I assume I should be doing an "incremental" backup if I can't use the version chain thing, but then I don't know which settings I should use. If I create a new "full" version after every 5 incremental versions, is there a way to get acronis to delete the old "full versions" prior to making a new one? Or do I have to go in and do that manually every so often?
I really only have space to have two full versions on my backup drive at a time, and I just don't know how to set up Acronis properly so that everything is automated and I don't need to babysit it.
Thanks!

Under normal compression, you can expect a backup size of about 65% or about 130-150GB. The size of the incremental will vary depending upon your disk activity. Be sure you any auto defrag is turned off. TI will include any file in your incremental which has changed disk positions.
Your task is headed in the right direction except you should only keep 1 prior chain. The reason being, whatever you set as the limit, another full backup must be completed before the deletion of the prior backup chain will occur.
