Blue Screen of Death on system start

Thread needs solution

I am going crazy with this...

-----------

System = brand new Vista Home Premium installed on new bare HDD last week.  Worked.

Updates = all issued to SP2 level, this week.  Worked.

This morning, purchased & installed Acronis True Image Home 2009 and let it do all offered defaults.  OK. Registered the product.

Restarted the PC.

NOW, blue screen of death, and system loops through re-boots.

Tried going into Safe Mode to Uninstall Acronis. Not possible.

Tried Repair from the Vista dvd.  Vista found nothing to repair.

-------

Any ideas / guidance / suggestions?

Thanks,

RK

Just following on:-

It dawned on me, after I finished my first post that Acronis had run through the offered defaults during installation.

Therefore, there should be a image of C: drive so I should be able to Restore and all would be well.

Booted from the Acronis disc and I was back within the application.

Yep, there was the image sitting on D: drive.

Told Acronis to Restore C: and it ran to completion (about 30 minutes).

Low and behold - it still does BSOD upon Boot!!!!!!!!!

-------

OK, I give up.  Will reformat C: & re-install Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 then download the all the updates, again.

May seek further advice from Jack Daniels and Jim Beam...

What build of TI 2009 are you using?

Do you have any media card readers connected to the computer? If so, have you tried booting with them disconnected?

Thanks Mudcrab,

AFAIK, it is the current build, as per check with Acronis web site this morning, after installation.  All hardware that could be removed has been removed.

UPDATE:

The reformat & re-install of Vista failed.  Odd, PC has been working well for one week since first built.

Discovered, subsequent to above:-

(1)  PartionMagic found defective locations (fixable) on C: drive.

(2) MEMTEST shows massive FAILURES on the  2 x 2GB GEIL DDR2 800 in this HTPC.

Swapped out the memory sticks.

MEMTEST is now PASSing all locations.

I deduce the GEIL RAM sticks started failing earlier today.

One of those days!

Now, to re-install Acronis.

Will let you know tomorrow...
