Boot CD with support for Atheros NIC
Is there a Boot CD for TI 2013 that has drivers for the following NIC:
Atheros AR8162/8166/8168 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)
PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1090&SUBSYS_200F1043&REV_10
PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1090&SUBSYS_200F1043
PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1090&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_1969&DEV_1090&CC_0200
I need to recover the system partition on a laptop and the Boot CD from ver 5551 does not detect the NIC. The image is on the network unfortunately and I don't have a flash/external drive to hold it (it it a full image + a few incrementals so I would need all of them to recover).
Thanks for your help!

Support sent me an ISO to try but it's not working, the NIC still doesn't show up under the Linux based boot CD.
This is an ultrabook so I can't change the internal NIC. Do you happen to know whether an external USB NIC would work under the Linux boot CD?
Of course the ultrabook also has a wifi card (Atheros again) though I haven't seen wifi cards work on these boot CDs ever, on any computer. Never had a problem with the Ethernet NIC until now, the boot CDs have been pretty good about supporting them.

This is the driver that needs to be included on the Boot CD:

I hope someone from Acronis is reading these threads and will include it in the next official Boot CD. More and more laptops are coming out with this NIC.

The USB connected WIFI card would be a gamble (probably not supported very well, if at all).
Your best bet is to create the Windows based WinPE 4.0 Rescue Media with Mustang's PEBuilder ADK version.
It works very well, and you can add custom drivers to it if necessary, but since it is Windows 8 based, it may already contain drivers for your NIC.

I didn't mean a USB Wifi card, but rather a USB Ethernet card, something like the Linksys USB300M USB Ethernet Adapter - it's fairly old and it has been supported in Linux for a long time.
Can WinPE run off a USB flash drive? That's the other problem with the ultrabooks, no DVD-ROM. Luckily I can boot the Acronis Boot CD off a USB flash drive.

I didn't mean to say WiFi in my post, meant to say USB NIC. It is worth a try, but I'm still not going out on a limb with this one.
The WinPE based Rescue Media created from Mustang's PEBuilder or from Acronis' Plus Pack WinPE ISO Builder can be booted and run from USB Flash devices.

Thanks. Of course, the right thing to do would be for Acronis to release a Boot CD with proper support. It's not like the Atheros AR8162 is obscure, it seems to be popular in recent laptops from Dell, Lenovo, Asus, etc.
