Boot Failure

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Earlier tonight I began the cloning process to clone my data on my Toshiba hard drive, to my ADATA 256gb m.2 SSD. Everything was going well until when the program prompted me to restart the computer, which I did. Upon restarting I was greeted by a message telling me I had no boot device, and I could not boot.

I am now stuck with a non operational laptop. I thankfully had nothing important on it, it was a clean install of Windows. But now, it won't boot.

Please help!

Joe,

I believe I can help.  I will need to know which version of ATI you are using and which version of Windows.   With a laptop, the recommended procedure is to install the new SDD in the laptop and boot from rescue media.  The old HDD would be connected to the laptop using USB.  Then perform the clone from the old HDD to the new SDD.  Using this procedure, you would not need to perform a "clean" install of Windows.

Please describe in detail exactly what procedure you used.

Hi,

I am currently at school, but I can check these things when I get home. If this can help, my laptop is a HP Elitebook 840 g1 with Windows 7 Ultimate on it.

Thanks for your help!

Joe,

Can you put the old HDD back into the laptop and does it then boot OK?

FtrPilot

My laptop has a m.2 slot and a HDD slot. I'm keeping the HDD for mass storage, so it's still in at the same time as my SSD.

Joe,

Can you set your BIOS to boot from the HDD?  I want to make sure the HDD is still OK.  If so, I believe you have a way forward.  I'll be online most of the evening and will await your response.

Yes, I have done all of these. I contacted HP and they will be sending over recovery disks for free. They offered to send over a HDD but the disks will do.

I'll keep you posted
