Boot Media Can't Run TI2010 But CAN Run DD10!

Thread needs solution

I just built a new machine and am running two WD 500GB HDs in RAID 0. TIHome2010 runs fine from within the OS (fully patched WinXPSP3), but when I run TI from the boot media, I get an error: "No volume groups found." Interestingly enough, when I run either of the latest two builds of Disk Director 10, it finds my partitions and runs just fine. Hardware and error msgs follow:

Pertinent Hardware:
MSI P55-CD53
Intel i7 860 running stock
G.Skill Trident DDR3 2000, 4x2GB
2x Western Digital WD5000AAKS in Intel RAID 0 -- partitions C (OS) and D (Data)
1x Western Digital WD1001FALS in ThermalTake BlacX eSATA bay on Intel controller (part. E, data)
The JMicron SATA controller has two DVDRW drives

Error Msg when attempting to load TI2010:
"/dev/sda2: read failed after
0 of 512 at 785456562176:
Uknown error 5

No volume groups found
No volume groups found
No volume groups found"

Nothing happens, just flashing cursor.

Any ideas? TIA!!

Hello twokatmew,

I will do everything possible in order to resolve the issue. The source of issue is lack of drivers under Linux. First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products. Recreate Acronis bootable disc and see if the issue persists.

If the issue remains please download ISO image based on ISOLinux from your account under Registered Products and create Acronis bootable disc using third-party software. ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the website more frequently than regular product updates are released.

ISOLINUX Bootable Media has several boot parameters that may help overcome possible issues with booting. You can also set a specific VGA resolution in the ISOLINUX media if there an issue with the Graphical User Interface (GUI). Check the following article for more details http://kb.acronis.com/content/4828

Let us know the results.

Interestingly enough, upgrading to TI2010 build 6029 solved the problem. Although I just installed build 6053 today, I haven't yet tried using the boot media. I'm assuming it will work since build 6029 works.

Although Disk Director 10 allowed me to get into the interface (using boot media), I assumed the program actually worked. Sadly it does not. When I do *anything* such as displaying properties on a partition, DD10 freezes. I have had to manually reset the machine. I've tried multiple times with the same results. (Yes, I'm using the latest Linux ISO.)

I guess I'll just have to wait for DD11, eh? I'm very anxious to get the new version, as DD10 seems to have aged past being of any use!

Are you using the current Disk Director 10 build 2239? The symptom you describe is a known bug in build 2239 which Acronis has acknowledged and is working on. See this thread.

If you have or can get a hold of the bootable ISO for the previous version, build 2160, it works correctly. Send a PM to an Acronis moderator requesting build 2160 ISO.

Yes, I'm using build 2239. I do have the installer for 2160, so I could reinstall that and make a boot CD.

Thanks for the pointer. Somehow I missed the other thread! :)
