Bootable Recovery Media Problems: Summary of Builds

Build 5021 Original Boxed CD

Build5021 Orginal CD - Boots Laptop OK and Works Fine (However Backup Archive 9 Hours in Future).
Build5021 Bootable "made" with Media Builder - Boots Laptop OK and Works Fine (Correct Time).

The Original Boxed CD Build 5021 works. However there are other bugs in this build that have been fixed in future builds. I bought my original CD (build 5021) three weeks ago. When I registered and logged in to my Acronis account there was a new Build 6053. Summary of results below:

Build 6053

Build6053 Bootable "made" with Media Builder - Boots Laptop with ST Module Error (Crashes Laptop when Backup Options Selected).
Build6043 Download LINUX ISO - Boots Laptop with Shared Library Error - forget what code now (Crashes Laptop when Backup Options Selected).
Build6053 WinPE (Default WinPE) - Boots Laptop OK (Crashes Laptop when Backup Options Selected).

Build 7046

Build7046 Bootable "made" with Media Builder - Boots Laptop (Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4).
Build7046 Download LINUX ISO - Boots Laptop (Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.8 or something this time) ALSO Crashed Laptop when Backup Options Selected.
Build7046 WinPE (Default WinPE) - Boots Laptop OK and Works Fine (However Backup Archive 9 Hours in Furture).
Build7046 WinPE (Customized UK Keyboard/UK TimeZone) - Boots Laptop OK and Works Fine (only 1 Hour in Future - because of British Summer Time).

SAFE MEDIA

Build5021 SAFE MEDIA - Can't remember
Build6053 SAFE MEDIA - Crashed the Laptop when Backup Options Selected
Build7046 SAFE MEDIA - Boots the Laptop - Backups Super Slow. 5 minutes to backup 400 MB [meg] (WinPE backups up 16 GB [gig] in this time). Causes Fan on Laptop to start spinning like crazy. I don't like the sound of this. Has this product been properly tested? Safe Media does NOT sound very safe to me. Doesn't recognize eSATA External Hard Disk, have to use External USB Hard Disk in Safe Media. If I add a Microsoft Wireless Mouse and Keyboard they will randomly crash True Image in Safe Media.

The Original Boxed CD Build 5021 works. However there are other bugs in this build that have been fixed in future builds.

Laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo
Motherboard (PM45 Intel Express Mobile Series 4 with NVIDIA graphics card)
Internal Hard Disk - SATA II Western Digital 2.5 inch
External Hard Disk - I either connect a Western Digital 3.5 inch eSATA or Western Digital 2.5 inch USB 2.0

All results are the same with or without the external hard disks connected. All combinations have been tried. I have also tried bootable media based on CD and SD Card Reader Realtek. All results are the same whatever combinations are tried.

Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory

The most important part of a backup and recovery solution is the recovery bootable media. Being able to recover. I do NOT have any confidence when I see Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4 unable to open file. No such file. No such directory. Then when the SAFE MEDIA causes the FAN to SPIN LIKE CRAZY that is your confidence completely and totally gone.

Hello Ashley,

Thank you very much for your feedback, it is very important to us. I would like to assist you with addressing the issues you are having with build 7046.

It is very likely that you have downloaded one of the first released bootable media for build 7046. The error message - (Shared Library Error libpcap.so.0.9.4). - has now been removed. Please try downloading the latest bootable media from your Acronis web-account and if the issue still persists, please submit a support request with the System Report collected from that media.

Unfortunately the Safe media does not support ESATA because it is based on Dos. It is used very rarely in emergencies when there are issues with the main bootable media. You can refer to page 125 of our user guide for additional information.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply Anton

libpcap.so.0.9.4 - I also got the the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error when I "made" the bootable media using Media Builder from within the Full Windows version of True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 too. So has the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error been solved/removed from the Full Windows Build 7046 as well ? Should I also download this build again and re-install on windows ?

I have just downloaded the Full True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 again and re-installed. Then I built the bootable recovery media again using Media Builder within the Full Windows Product. No there is still a problem. The libpcap.so.0.9.4 error is still present. As the computer boots into the standalone recovery environment I get the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error (with Bootable Media "made" from within the full windows true image 2010 home product).

Hello Ashley,

I appreciate your response!

Most likely re-downloading and re-installing the software will not fix this issue. What I meant in my previous response was, to log in to your Acronis web-account, navigate to My Products&Downloads and try downloading the bootable media again. By the way, I have tried the media myself right now, on my virtual machine, and there are no errors present.

Regarding the program itself, I am very confident that the next build will have this issue addressed, so that you can create the media from the software directly, without downloading it from our website.

For your convenience, you can check this article -

- Downloading Acronis Bootable Media

If you are still having issues with that message after downloading the media from our website, please check my previous post and submit a support request with the necessary logs.

Thank you!

Well on my 1-year old laptop (the actual physical machine) the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error is present in BOTH the Bootable Linux ISO (the one from my acronis account) and the Bootable Media "made" with the Full Windows Product using Media Builder. I am not interested in the Linux ISO, I am only interested in the Full Product Bootable (made with Media Builder) or the WinPE plugin. It is not really much use having the Plus Pack (Windows PE) if you are going to resort to the Linux ISO.

Do you have an estimated time on when this "new build" will be available. Since I have now had the Acronis Software for 1-month and 3-different builds ALL HAVE ERRORS and BUGS PRESENT. This is fast becoming a waste of my time!

Hello Ashley,

Thank you for your  response.

Unfortunately, it is unclear, are you able to pass through the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error? Are you able to get the access to the main program window?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

I also have the April 1 2010 True Image Home 2010 Build 7046 and have the libpcap.so.0.9.4 error. I have to use TI 2010 from Windows to make a disk image to a DVD so that I can use one-click restore, bootable media doesn't have this as a backup option. The image I made validated, but when trying to restore, one-click restore fails but the restore works fine when using the TI full version from the same DVD which also has the image I'm trying to restore. Is this libpcap.so.0.9.4 error playing a part in the one-click restore failure?

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your response.

One-click restore and the full version have similar components, that's why the issue you are experiencing is rather strange. Could you please let us know the exact moment of the failure? Does any error message appear?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

When I boot from the DVD trying to restore the disk, One-Click Restore stops withthe error "Inserted media is incorrect. Please insert the media with the last volume of the archive" but there is only one DVD for the backup! Re-inserting the same DVD doesn't work. For whatever reason One-Click Restore cannot see the .tib file on the DVD but the full version restore on the same DVD can see the .tib file and restores the image.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for the provided information.

We are aware of the issue you are experiencing, our developers are working on it. Please try to wait for several seconds ignoring the error massage, probably, the restore will run anyway.

The fix will be implemented for the future releases, the exact time frame is unknown.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

The restore does not occur regardless of how long the system is left as is (I've left it for an hour or more), or if the media is ejected and re-inserted.
