bootable rescue media can't find my external USB Drive
I'm using the latest build of TI home 11. I have a backup on an external USB Drive. I boot from the bootable rescue media in order to restore the full image on a new hard drive but TI can't see the external USB dirve which has the disk image. Please help.

I have found a kluge that works most of the time.
Boot your system from the bootable rescue media installed on a USB Pen Drive. Doing so loads the drivers necessary to 'see' the USB port. If you have more than one USB port, ONLY THAT PORT will be available.
The Acronis software loads (HOME 2010 in my case; this also worked with Acronis Backup 10) and I start the backup or restore process. When I get to the menu where I need to select my external USB storage device (which is not there...the heart of this problem), I unplug the USB PEN DRIVE (the software has been loaded) and plug in the external USB drive.
Please wait for the USB drive to spin up (watch the activity light). Back out of the Acronis program till you get to the HOME page and attempt the Restore or Backup operation again. This time, the external USB should be visible when you get to the appropriate menu. If not, back out of the menus a second time and repeat.
This kluge is a bit sensitive, and occationally my system rebooted during the selection process (BUT NEVER during the actual backup or restore). Clearly your are fooling the system by having that one USB port do double duty.
I have not tried the BartPE solution.

Well, I can't restore my backup image either, because ATI Home 11 can't find my external drive. I have been reading all sorts of threads about this online. What do I need to do to accomplish this. I mean, when I check boot order the usb external with the slave sata drive is in there. There is some reason, why Acronis is not aware of this. Hope you can help me, as this is an ole thread but relevant for today, thanks, DR

Hi. I have done it. The problem typically is thae the linux boot can only see one usb drive. You were not the clear, but the way to do it is this.
1. Create a usb boot drive for acronis
2. Boot and let the software load into memory
3. Choose backup location. It will show your usb boot pen drive
4. Unplug the pen drive and plug in your usb sata drive
5. Go back one level in acronis
6. Select drive again
You might have to attempt selecting the drive several times
The defect is the usb driver for the Linux boot subsystem.

Well, thanks for the info, but I am not doing backup, I am doing restore. This is getting very frustrating, why can't acronis see the usb enclosure with the sata drive in it, can't be that difficult. I had it seeing it once, anyway, keep assisting, appreciate it, DR
