Booting from CD

Thread needs solution

I have changed the order of booting on my laptop so that the system looks to the DVD drive first. However when I try to start a recovery process by booting up with the bootable disk in place - nothing happens. I note that the files on the bootable CD are all within a folder called Recovery Manager, so, in the absence of an .exe file at the root level on the CD how could True Image EVER boot up from the CD?

Trying to start a recovery session in Windows and then rebooting doesn't work either - Windows just loads normally.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Adrian

I'd say the bootable CD, which is Linux, doesn't have the proper drivers for your system. When you start a recovery in Windows, TI gathers the data you provide concerning the restore and then loads the same Linux envronment from your HD which is why you get the same result.

If you are using TI2009 I suggest you contact Acronis via their Live Chat and they may be able to provide you with a different rescue .iso that you can burn to CD. If you are using an earlier version, download the TI2009 trial and create the rescue CD and see if ti works. If it does, then upgrade. The trial version CD will restore existing images but will not create them.

From what I know and worked for me you need to make a recovery (rescue) disk which you make the first time you install the software on your pc. making the bootable disk from the tool menu it configure the drivers to your machine so that it boots. it works well. They tell you that you do not need to make it rite away but before you have issues, and need to make another (disk) if you change any hardware. hope this helps Bob

Recovery Manager is indeed the folder the system should boot from.  Inside that folder are the necessary files: bootmenu.bin; bootwiz.bin; f11.cfg; kernel.dat; mouse.com; ramdisk.dat; splash.run.  If you use Explorer, you should see these files.  You laptop should look in that folder to boot - but as was said, perhaps it is not trained or able to deal with a folder.  If you have your TI2009 program create a ISO file, then you could possibly edit that to remove the folder so that the boot files will be exposed to your laptop.

The Recovery Manager folder only contains the files needed to activate the ASRM when booted to the TI CD. The actual booting files are hidden and can't normally be seen. Using a ISO capable program (like Ultra ISO) they can be extracted.

You might try downloading the TI 2009 ISO file from your Acronis account and seeing if it works better.

Exactly!  The ISO Bootable file is awesome.  It gives one a choice of about 8 boot modes.  I also endorse UltraISO.  I got it yesterday and have already done a perfect clone job with it of my Windows 7 RTM machine.

I have tried to create an ISO disc, but get an error message ""Failed
to create a file! Specified location does not exist or you do not have
enough permission to write to this disk".

This is TOO hard - I wish I had stayed with the previous version! That
worked perfectly.

The support offered by Acronis is absymal! Well, non-existent it seems to me.
I eventually managed to find an email address buried deep in the website - but a message sent to
support_eu@acronis.com just bounced back "user unknown". Does anybody have a working email address?
This is VERY poor after-sales service.

Thanks guys.

Try the cd in another system and see if it will boot.  Does any other bootable cd boot on your computer?

Adrian,

From your last post, it sounds like you might be trying to create an ISO file using TI. If so, you should instead download the already created ISO file from your Acronis account.

I appreciate your help - seems like no support provided by Acronis!

Well I naturally tried to use the create ISO disc from within TI - what else would that option be for? ANother part of the program that doesn't function properly - seems like this version is a total **** up!

I have logged into my account and can see the registered products list, but I'm damned if I can see where the ISO download link is, just the option to download the full program again. It's now 32 days since I bought this 'upgrade' so now they want me to pay for support for a product that doesn't work. I do need to restore a previous image but when I have done that I shall find an alternative to this rubbish program. It's a disgrace!

Thanks for your input. A shame that users are expected to provide the free support the company should provide!

Cheers

Adrian

Adrian,

What version of TI are you using? I think only current versions have the ISO available for download (TI 2009, for example).

If it is there, it should be on the Bootable Media tab:
