BootMgr missing bootrec repair madness

Thread needs solution

"Happy" Whit Monday morning!
I´ve been through this several times and evry time I found a way, but this time it´s special madness.
Guess the "critical job detector" inside my laptop sensed my weariness.

I got a shiny new Hitachi 1.5 TB (!) HD on my laptop for more headroom, to get rid of a Vista installation and have more room for Win 7...

Old: Vista | Win 7 | WinServer2k8R2 | Data
New: Win 7 | WinServer2k8R2 | Data

I backed up and restored the Win partitions. Win 7 primary active, WS primary.
"BootMgr missing" -- I knew it would come up.
The original Win 7 Ult MSDN DVD brings up an idiotic (sorry there is no stronger word) "incompatible with your OS) message.
In the dozen or more attempts the Win Server repair lists the 2 OSes (mostly ).
I always successfully do bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot.
bootrec /rebuildbcd renders zero OSes 10 out of 12 times.
When it said it found 2 I tried to repair All and one at a time, both time to be back at "BootMgr missing".

Thanks for any help! (No straws, but logic, please!)
G.
