BOOTMGR is missing - PC does not recognize Win7 Install disk in DVD drive

Thread needs solution

Brand new PC running Win7 - all software is running perfectly. Installed Acronis 2013, set up Clone Disk and after restart message BOOTMGR is missing appears. Have seen info elsewhere about how to restore, but all methods require DVD drive to be recognized as primary drive to start up the DVD drive's Install disk.
Any ideas how to get DVD drive to be recognized? Tried pressing F12 during restart but had no effect. Has Acronis just destroyed my PC?

I'm not sure what you did. Perhaps you could more clearly describe what steps you took and what occurred.

Do not Clone. Do full disk Backups, and Restore when needed. Search for many posts explaining why.

To boot Win7 from a DVD/CD, you must edit the BIOS to place the optical drive at higher boot priority than the hard drive. Each BIOS differs, but it's likely under a BIOS menu such as BOOT ORDER. You could also raise the boot priority of USB devices, so you could boot the ATI bootable Rescue Media from a USB flash drive.

"Installed Acronis 2013, set up Clone Disk and after restart message BOOTMGR is missing appears"

Does this mean the clone completed, or was the restart at the beginning of (or before) the clone operation?

It seems that for some reason TrueImage changes the bios order. So, before get desperate and do what you find on the web like fixmbr, fixboot, rebuild, watch out because you can lose windows restore points or also RollBack history and so on.

Maybe you´re getting this " BOOTMGR is missing message" due TrueImage change the bios BOOT order. So, when starting your computer try to press DEL key (Each bios has a key) to access the BIOS and from there you can see the BOOT order and change the 1st to you HD which was chanced to CD or other HD which doesn´t have the system.

If doesn't solve, before using those line commands, try to check if the partition (95MB) is active.

Good luck.

Another reason for this message might be because somehow the wrong partition has been made active or no partition has been made active. If you have access to a disk management tool you will be able to see if there are any partitions marked as active.
