Broken Backup Volume

Thread needs solution

A customer has caused all kinds of problems by not using Acronis as per the instructions resulting in not being able to find the last backup in a volume. Is there a way to extract data from what I guess can only be descibed as a broken backup set.

Thanks Mick

Hello Mick,

Thank you for posting. I will definitely assist you with this issue.

I would assume that the backup is split into multiple .tib files from the description you provided. I would recommend to place all .tib files in one folder and try exploring or mounting the backup. For exploring, simply double click on the .tib file if you have Acronis True Image 2010 Home installed. For mounting, you will need to start the Mount Wizard by selecting Tools & Utilities in the main program menu. Please refer to page 138 from our User guide which is available here.

Just in case, can you please describe the issue in more detail, maybe we will be able to do additional things based on the new information from you.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton
Thanks for your reply, to briefly explain how we arrived at where we are now this is what has happen. The machine belongs to one of our customers who we support. Unfortunatley a few days agao he experienced a BSOD and decided with his very limited knowledge to actually create a clone of the backup disk thinking that the machine would be restored to its pre BSOD state. However as we know thats not the way to carry out a restore and of course we should have been allowed to identify the cause of the BSOD first. What we have now is an external backup disk with the .tib files and an identical disk in the machine. If only he had come to us first, Hey Ho.

The backup is split into several files in the same folder and if we try to run restore or open any of the .tib files we are advised that it is not the last volume of the backup archive. We also get the same message if we attempt to mount any of the .tib files as you suggested.

Whilst we accept that a full restore may not be possible we want to try to salvage some of the customers personal data.

Kind regards
Mick
