"Browse for backup" not working

Thread needs solution

Hi!

I moved my backup from the external to the internal disc and found out that I could not mount the backup afterwards. After some searching I found the following article: http://forum.acronis.com/content/3886

Since I already moved the backup, I guess method 2 should apply for me:

Moving or renaming backup archives without Acronis True Image Home 2010

1. Browse to where your backup archive is and rename or move it:

2. Once moved or renamed, re-add the archive to Acronis True Image Home 2010 by clicking Recovery -> Browse for backup...:

Now you have your backup renamed or moved and the information in the database of the product is up to date and correct.

However, unfortunatelly clicking that browse button lets me navigate to my moved backup, but whatever I try, the setting will not be taken, i.e. TI is always refering to the old, wrong backup position. What can I do to successfully move the backup and make it accessible again?

Instead of using the Mount feature, see if you can explore the .tib file using Windows Explorer. Treat it like a folder in WE i.e. 2-click it to open it then drill down to where you want to be.

Hi,

unfortunatelly this does not work either -- same problem. The moved backup simply cannot be accessed without re-adding it to TI database, and this is what does not work. And, by the way, this would only be a workaround. I would like to have the "Browse for backup" button fixed ;)

Hi: Glad I found your post as I thought I was doing something wrong.

I'm using the latest, TI Home 2010, Build 7046, and I can't "browse" for backups after I have moved them on my NAS either. The NAS shares have been mapped and the backup files are located such as V:\HP_DriveC_UserFiles\Set1\HP_DriveC_UserFiles_7_19_2010.tib. I even changed the option to "show" the extension in Windows but that didn't solve my problem.

I also can't seem to "remove" all of the entries in the "Data Recovery and Backup Management" section for "Disk Backups & File Backups" that document incorrect paths due to the "move" so I can start over with a clean sheet without reinstalling the program.

After using the program for 6 months and finding that I needed to add a "generation" capability (Chain2Gen) to tracking/maintaining my files. I now have a working system and have moved the old backups to the proper folders/paths which currently are being entered in the program correctly.

Any ideas what can be done until Acronis fixes the apparent problem is appreciated.

I have True Image 2010 at the 7154 level on a Windows 7 system. Several backups were listed in the “Data recovery and backup management” panel but not the ones I wanted to use. When I tried to use “Browse for backups,” the program did not find ANY backup files in directories in which .tlb files really did exist. In “fiddling around,” I did the following and the problem somehow got fixed:

1. I renamed the True Image data base, C:\Users\All Users\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database\archives.xml.old, and started Acronis.
2. I started True Image, and of course there were no backups listed in “Data recovery and backup management” panel. But the “Browse for Backups” button worked, showing backup files where they were not found before. I selected one, and it became visible in the “Data recovery and backup management” panel. I was able to use the backup file that True Image “knew about.
3. A new archives.xml was created. I deleted it, and renamed archives.xml.old back to archives.xml.
4. I started True Image, and found that the original set of files listed under “Data recovery and backup management” were back (no surprise there). As you would expect, the backup file I had added to the list was not listed because I deleted new archives.xml.
5. “Browse for backups” was once again working OK. You would THINK that these steps would just me back to the original situation where “Browse for backups” was not working, but now all is A.O.K. and I don’t care why.
