BSOD After Backup .. Not restore

Thread solved

Hi All,

I have an unusual situation, not yet resolved by tech support. I backed up two different W10 PCs and next restart each went to BSOD saying failed to find \Windows\System32\Winload.exe. I attempted using Windows Recovery USB with no success and finally attempted a restore on one of the PCs. The restore seemed to go OK but still BSOD on restart.

An older backup worked and I was able to select some more recent individual files from the newer backup and am almost back to a working system. Had to do the same procedure on the second PC but until I get an answer from Tech Support I am reluctant to backup again!

Any thoughts?

Phil, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but I can think of zero reasons why just making a Backup would result in a BSOD on the subsequent boot into Windows.

I am assuming here that you do mean Backup and NOT making a Clone of the Win 10 PC boot disk?

I could understand this type of issue arising if you had cloned the drive then left the clone still connected when trying to boot into Windows, i.e. had two drives with the same disk signature connected and trying to boot from the second drive.

Hello Phill,

Welcome to the forum.

I have updated the ticket you raised.

It seems that our support team has not yet received any logs from your machine. These logs are necessary to investigate the issue, as without them, we cannot determine the cause of the problem.

Please upload the logs to the FTP so that we can assist you with the issue.

Thanks in advance!

Good Morning Jose and Steve. This was certainly an Acronis backup on both PCs and I did send the log files some months ago when the incident was first reported. I have since upgraded both pcs to Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and have been able to backup both without incident. It was with great trepidation that I did this backup and only after a Windows backup but all went well so I guess you can mark the issue as resolved.

Thanks, Phill.
