BSOD on Boot after Acronis Home 2013 Install

Thread needs solution

I am having trouble after upgrade install of Acronis 2013. I installed twice with 2013, first time failed, i disabled McAfee antivirus, everything installed. i booted over, there was a flash of blue screen, then i rebooted with Last Known good Configuration. What is Acronis looking for at Boot up of the Windows 7 64bit Ultimate that it is failing on? i did not capture the BSOD codes nor was a dmp file written.

now that Acronis is disabled by the Last good configuration boot, i cant find the problem.

My System as follows:
Alienware Area 51
i7-980
24gig memory
NVdia GTX 670 Video
Boot Drive 1.5 tb
System contains 1 2TB drive E
1 3TB drive G

Please help

thanks
Thor

I was having the same issues with Win7 64PRO and TI 2013. the error was with "Snapman.sys"

To see the BSOD message do this:

Right mouse click on Computer from the desktop.
Left panel, choose "Advanced System Settings"
Under Startup and Recovery, choose "Settings"
Under System Failure, UNCHECK "Automatically Restart"
Make sure "Write an event to the system log" is CHECKED
Hit "OK"

Next time you get a BSOD on boot up, boot up will halt on the BSOD screen and you can read the error. It will also write a "Critical Error" log file so you can see it from the system log.

I wound up uninstalling TI 2013 and my bootup problems went away, but I'm not happy about the lack of recovery software :/

Hope that helps

What version did you upgrade from?

yeah i still have the software installed, i cant fathom not having back up on my systems, i upgraded for TI 2011. i also made those changes to the system concerning boot up log and Not restarting. hopefully some one can describe what the driver is that is messing up the boot of this system when TI 2013 is fully installed

thanks for your answers tho' hopefully we'll figure this all out or go back to TI 2011 or TI 2012 and get a refund for TI 2013

Uninstall ATI from your computer, use the cleanup utility here.
Follow all instructions carefully. Do not let the utility reboot you rcomputer before you have completed the last 2 registry checks.

Then reboot, reinstall 2013.

on install BSOD STOP 0X00D1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL install fail TI 2013 ----- iastor.sys

also it asked me on cleanup do i want to remove extended capacity disks, do i answer Y o N to that? i answered N on last clean up & install

Had you enabled the True Image Extended Capacity Drive software that allows XP to see 3TB drives or any other software that allows that?

The error message relates to a drive extender driver. You can say yes to that driver being uninstalled however until it is reinstalled you will not be able to access 3TB disks.

Yes, remove the extended capacity disks, knowing that you will lose access to any big disk you have set up this way. So be ready for that (you might want to move the content of these disks temporarily somewhere else).

Also reinstall the Intel Drivers (Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Make sure you use the latest version).

Is removing the 3TB drive Temporary? it was created as a GPT drive? will TI 2013 never be able to back up files from this drive? i will update the Intel Drivers tomorrow

I still have the 1.5TB drive that the 3TB replaced, can i put that back in the system, install TI 2013, then replace it with the 3TB drive? they both have the same data on them?

Yes, removing the 3TB is temporary. If you have no data on that drive, and there is still a problem with it, we will reinitialize. For the time being, let's take that element out of the picture and make sure you can install 2013 properly.

Once 2013 and Windows work OK, let us know.

The 3TB has to be initialized as GPT, and you will have to enable UEFI to boot on the GPT disk with Windows 7 x74.

Do you currently boot using UEFI boot in the BIOS?
When you log into Windows on the 1.5TB, right click on the computer icon on your desktop, choose manage, storage, disk management. In the view menu, choose top, list disks.
Is your 1.5TB MBR or GPT? Hopefully it is GPT.

Moving from MBR to GPT as bootable could be done if you have the Windows installation DVD.

MY 3TB is not a boot drive, its storage in my System, its an E: Drive. Nothing is GPT in the system accept the 3TB, why is all this necessary? what is th epurpose of UEFI?

I had no idea TI was this much of a bother to install, i am not sure with out more explanation, i really want it? please advice

According to my Device Manager, all drivers are up to date as far as dell recommends, Intel Rapid Storage Drives are at Version 9.6.1014

Ah OK, I thought you wanted to replace the 1.5TB that your post # 1 says it is the boot disk with the 3TB disk

You don't need to worry about UEFI then. That would be necessary only if you want to boot from the 3TB GPT drive.

Yes, first remove the 3TB disk, uninstall older version, use the cleanup utility found here (follow all instructions attentively). Reboot. INstall 2013.

Update your intel drivers to the last version (v11.xx).

Is it working now?

If yes, we will insert the 3TB disk. Is it still working?

i appreciate your time on this, but that is not something i am willing to do. its too much work for a piece of software, i'll probably use Norton Ghost 15 instead since i have a copy available at this time. when acronis fixes this problem, i'll return to acronis.

my other plan is to just pull the drives i need to back up on a weekly basis and back up with acronis on another system.

Dell recommends i use the current drivers on this system, so i dont feel like udating to V11 of the intel drivers is a good thing to do. i dont want to sacarfice something else in this system just to get Aconis to run, i shouldnt have to do that. this system is two yrs old, i just had a motherboard replaced thru warranty, i assume it is a similar motherboard to the one it replaced.

Again, i sincerely appreciate ur time

Not neccessarily so, it maybe a different model, albeit with the same features and functions as the original.

Upgrading the Intel drivers will help you with Windows being able to handle the GPT drive, and Acronis too. I don't see why you wouldn't use the latest drivers.
