BSOD Caused by Nonstop backup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm currently running a trial of TI2010, and when its running, the computer is in use doing heavy I/O and a backup is about to be run I got a BSOD caused by fltmgr.sys.

Technical Details:
Computer: Toshiba Tecra S2, 1.5GB ram, 100GB HDD, 2Ghz Celeron M.
Drive C is being backed up to a USB HDD (WD 1TB)
OS: Win XP SP3, 32bit
build 6053

How i tested:
With Nonstop backup on the computer will run happily for hours on idle, but will usually BSOD within 5 minutes of heavy IO & CPU activity.

With Nonstop backup off the computer will run non-stop with no issues.

has anybody come across this?

I have the same problem with build #6053. Got a bluescreen running nonstop backup.
I use Windows xp with all patches installed. Stopping nonstop backup: everything works fine.
Can anybody help?

Hello John and Alexander!

Thank you for reporting about the issue - it i really important for us. I am awfully sorry for the procrastination with the reply and will be glad to help you with this issue.

Unfortunately at the moment it is difficult to specify the exact reason, we will need some additional information from the machines in question.

fltmgr.sys is a Windows File System Manager. As far as we are closely dealing with it (creation of snapshot), and also using CPU, BSOD could have been caused either by some issue with the File System or corruption of CPU. But unfortunately here we can guess only due to the lack of information.

In order to provide you with the exact reason and solution we will need some additions info, so I would appreciate if you could kindly do the following:

  1. Could you please kindly do the following?

    - Download AcronisInfo http://download.acronis.com/support/AcronisInfo.exe
    - Run the downloaded file.

The gathered information will be put in AcronisInfo.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.

This information will allow us to take a closer look at the Acronis product state and logs.

  2. Please kindly create the Windows Dump File and kindly contact me with the information gathered.

We will analyse the information and provide you with the solution.

Thank you in advance for cooperation!

I got the same issue. It happend to me three times over the last 4 days. In my case the BSOD occured when Nonstop backup was running and I was working in Adobe Acrobat trying to email PDF files from within Acrobat.
The Windows Minidump points to the following file: AFCDP.SYS, which is a TI process running in the background. I have disabled the Acronis Nonstop Backup Service at startup, thus AFCDP.SYS in not running as an active process.

Any resolution to this? I started a week ago with v0746. BSOD with non stop backups upon first try, and now it continues every time. Sometimes just starting it, other times during a backup, and if I try to select a backup that suceeded, it always BSOD's. I've never been able to select anything to restore due to bsod. it crashed even before it lists any recoverable data. Never had a bsod on this system until installing ti 2010. Now I'm concerned my system will crash, corrupting something and leaving my system unbootable. This just happened to my boss. He too purchased v7046 and crashed 3 or 4 times and after the last one a couple days ago, his two internal drives are unreadable. He's currently using a disk recovery tool to attempt recovey of the lost data as Windows cannot read nor can it format these drives.
So far the utility is running and finding data, I will ask tomorrow if how much he got back.
I've heard many complaint of this issue and Acronis support asks for mini dump files and for them to run the Acronis info utility, but I've yet to see any response as to what was found. On one forum, a support person did state there was a known issue with the non stop backup but no ETA on a resolution. this was near the end of April. Since there is no update to v 7046, I'm wondeing what, if anything can be done other than requesting a refund? I really want this feature, so a refund is not my choice, but I don't want to hose my system in the process, nor do I want to wait until my 30 day no question refund is expired. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dan
