Buggy software, extremely disappointed, no support, avoid at all costs !!!!!!
I am extremely disappointed with this unrealiable sofware. I had to uninstall this crap from my computer although it was a bit expensive (about 70 euros/3 licenses) taking into account that there are free alternatives. The only reason I found time to write this critical review is that other people are warned and informed when considering buying this rubbish. I had several issues with Acronis and I am going to describe the most critical ones that I remember.
1) I have a HP laptop (HP EliteBook 820 G2) with 256 GB SSD (Samsung MZ7TE256HMHP). I just wanted to create a system image of this computer but it was not possible. I got a message saying: "Unable to create volume snapshot" (in fact, the message was in Czech since I had a Czech version). I am not the only one who saw this bug (https://forum.acronis.com/forum/96795) and once you see this error be sure that there is no solution. In fact, I was able to backup my computer only when I unchecked 1st partition (apparently MBR). So this "sophisticated" crap cannot cope with something that can be easily done by WIN7 backup tool. Interestingly, no issues were observed when I did a system image of non-SSD system drive in my Dell laptop.
2) Other issue is even more detrimental and general. When I turn off computer, I often saw message: "Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait.The computer will be turned off automatically in about 2 minutes". Unfortunately, It often happened that I had to shut down my laptop by pressing the power button as "2 minutes" took forever. Of course, I was afraid that it could corrupt my system if I shut down my computer in this way too often (considering that I really don't know what is Acronis doing without my permission). Again, I am not the only one who encountered this annoying bug (https://forum.acronis.com/forum/94506). I tried to solve this issue by writing shut down script, as suggested on Acronis forum , but it didn't work for me (https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45058?page=2). Searching Acronis forum, I discovered that the problem has been going on for years. So don't expect any fix. Pay the attention to a contribution from Anna Trifonova (Forum Support Engineer): "in build 6613 we changed "operaions are in progress message" to ""Acronis True Image is terminating the current operations, please wait.The computer will be turned off automatically in about 2 minutes"
In other words, they don't try to solve the problem at all but they rather rename it from time to time so that people get confused. Do they have any respect to the customers? What a terrible company!!!!!
The only solution to this shutdown problem is to disable all Acronis services on shutdown and renable them if you need to run Acronis. In fact, if you backup your data manually (i.e. you do not use Non-stop Backup or syncing), I discovered that you only need to run Acronis Scheduler2 Service.
3) The above mentioned bugs are the most critical ones I have seen but not the only ones. It sometimes happened that I started Acronis application and I saw various pop-up windows appearing on the screen that were saying something cryptic to me like "some script # is not running". I also found that I was eligible to upgrade to Acronis 2016. However, when I tried to press upgrade button (in the account menu) my laptop always got frozen. After that, I quickly said goodbye to this crap and uninstalled Acronis completely from my computer.
One week ago, I sent feedback (with a system report) to Czech representation of Acronis company and of course I did not obtained any response. In summary, If you are interested in testing buggy software for free that has really no support, then go and buy Acronis. You can play with it a lot of time and can google solutions to many bugs. Otherwise, if you want a reliable system for backup your data (and I think it is most important for all of us), then stay away from Acronis. You were warned. I wish I read the reviews from other people before buying this software. I also wish I never had to write this review. I hope that Acronis will worry more about the customer experience and start to fix issues that I and other people mentioned in this forum. Acronis support engineers like Anna Trifonova should not treat the customers as incompetent idiots. Some people may consider this offensive. I mean it honestly. Provide the solution but do not look for excuses as it saves time.
