Build 7046 still Freezes or Hangs Windows 7
Installed build 7046 on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit computer with Asus Maximus Formula motherboard and Quad core processor. During backup Windows hangs and freezes and become totally unresponsive. http://kb.acronis.com/content/6529 mentions this is fixed in version 7046 but it is not. Contacted support, had me download and install SnapApi version 526. Now during backup system still hangs and freezes but not quite as badly. Cannot browse or do anything during the early part of the backup. In fact doing so caused Internet Explorer to crash. This is unacceptable. Norton Ghost 15 does not have these problems.
Development and testing of this product are clearly not good. The kb article mentions changing SnapApi from Upper Filters to Lower Filters, clearly the design or implementation was not right from the start and has not gotten better. Wrote poor rating review on Newegg.com accordingly.

Ilya thanks. Let me know if you release a newer snapApi version.

Hey there,
same problem here: WIN7 64bit gets stuck also with latest version 7046.
In general: Every 2 days I have an automated task: Backup drive c:, valdiate and - if necessary - do consolidation in case backup is greater 400GB or older than 50 days.
In addition, there's activated "NonStopBackup", also for drive c:, storing the data in an other drive than the backup file.
In startup phase of PC for around 15 minutes, WIN7 often freezes for up to 30 seconds, sometimes for up to 5 minutes (!!!). Then I can continue working till next freeze.
Then - while validation - WIN7 works fine. While consolidation PC freezes again.
I'm wondering about that, because I have one of the fastest INTEL CPU I7 950 with 4 cores and can see that the cores are not really used. Max. usage while backup is around 30%. So theoretically freeze should not happen.
In fact the behaviour is much better with release 7046 than with previous versions, but it's not really good now.
Furthermore (please tell me if I have to open an other task here) NonStopBackup of 80GB drive c: takes around 300GB of backup drive space after 1 1/2 months continous Backup. After cleaning up the NonStop Backup (f.e. reducing backup down till 1 week of stored data) drive space consumption is not reduced but increasing every further day. It seems as if consolidation of NonStopBackup doesn't free the not used space. Finally that means: After 2 months of continued NonStopBackup I have to delete the whole Backup, because it exceeds my 400GB drive space reserved for the backup.
Furthermore, consolidation of standard incremental backup files (that's performed as said before after 100 days) sometimes deletes one of the files. F.e. I have 50 incremental backup files, after consolidation file no. 20 is missing. In result, the whole backup is damaged and useless.
As backup consolidation after 100 days takes several hours, sometimes it might be that in meantime PC is switched off. After switching on again next day, the consolidation temp files are remaining useless on backup drive and have to be deleted by hand. In my opinion ATI should erase not used temp files on its own.
Enclosed you will find my system information file, but without afcdpsrv.log as the zip file would have 25MB - too big for posting here.
Would nice if Acronis could solve a.m. problems.
Bye!
Ingo

Ingo, Try installing this snapApi with the default settings: http://download.acronis.com/sl/osrjgheddvzqpsbcmlyu/support/ticket/526/…

Hi Charlestek,
great hint! The new snapAPI works much better than before, means: No freezes anymore. I'va faced two times complete locks of the PC but I'm not sure if that was really caused by the new snapAPI.
The other problems regarding deleted backup-files are remaining, but reading snapAPI description I think it may help only against frozen windows system.
Lot of thanks!
Bye, Ingo

Ingo,
Yes the system still freezes somewhat during the early part of a backup. Acronis will not admit there are still problems.
At least it is better than before.

Hello charlestek,
As I can see from our system, your case is still open, so we'll continue investigating it and surely will fix it.
Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have the same problem as Ingo Godau-Gellert - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
I tried the link 'http://download.acronis.com/sl/osrjgheddvzqpsbcmlyu/support/ticket/526/S...' only to get "Requested file not found or download expired".
Great concept (non-stop backup) - but it doesn't work!

I actually ended up using a newer snapapi, version 545, but that link does not work now either. Your best bet is to have a live chat support session and ask the support guy for the latest snapapi download. It should be at least version 545 if not a later version.
Let me know if you get a link for a later version.

Same problem - was getting the issue with Acronis 2015 - been fighting it for months and finally narrowed it down to Acronis - windows works 100% with it uninstalled - decided that Acronis 2018 might solve the issue - bought that today - the same problem so have had to uninstall having never used it!!
I'm not even trying to use Acronis - just it being on the computer freezes explorer - all other programs work fine - the internet is fine, but, if I want to browse files - look at images I have scanned, it locks up!
