Burnt

Thread needs solution

I went to install Acronis True Image Home 2009, which I had used before on an XP machine.  However, this time during the Vista 64 installation it asked me if I wanted to create an Acronis Secure Zone.  I said yes, and it started to change my partitioning to add one for itself.  After it finished, it came up with "Operation error: free block count too big."  At that point I tried to reboot and found that I didn't have an operating system.

The Acronis tech support people told me I had a corrupted Master Boot Record, and to use my Vista disc to get it back.  I realized too late that the OEM version didn't have a repair facility.  By that time I had gone past the point of no return and lost all my data.  I had most of my critical data backed up online thought Quicken Backup (used to be @backup).  But I did lose a lot of video files that I had taken.

So instead of saving me, this software burnt me.

Obviously too late now if you have reformated your hard drive, but it might have been possible to just repair the MBR in other ways, depending on how Vista had been installed.
