Can Acronis Home 2009 update a clone?

Thread needs solution

I use Acronis True Image 2009 with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I made a clone of my Hard Drive.
Questions:
1. Can I update regularly the clone or must I make a new clone once a week?
2. Can I boot from my external Hard Drive using the clone?

Thank you.

I want to repllace the 150MB PATA hard drive in my Dell Optiplex GX270 Desktop with a Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Blue SATA hard drive. I have Acronis 2009 software on my computer. I have a 4-port PCI Expansion card to accept the new SATA WD drive.

My questions are as follows:

1. Does the new WD SATA drive require jumper settings and if so is it set to slave?

2. Do both drives plug into the 4 port expansion card or does the old drive stay plugged into the main board and the new SATA plug into the expansion card.

3. Is RAID anything to use here

Any suggestions or cautions will be appreciated.

Web,

Since the new drive is SATA and connected to a new controller, and the old drive is PATA, you would need Acronis True Image Plus Pack to be able to restore to "different" hardware and have your system be bootable.

You would not be successful if using "clone", as it makes an exact duplicate of your hard disk, including all system settings (including existing hard disk controller drivers).

You only option would be to perform a full disk backup including all partitions, and then boot to the Acronis True Image Rescue Media (with Plus Pack) and perform a restore using the Plus Pack feature Universal Restore. You would need the ddrivers (in extracted format i.e. .inf, .sys, .cat, etc.) for your new controller to be available for injection into the restored image to support booting from the new hard disk / controller combination.

I now have Acronis 2013 with Plus Pack on my computer. I have backed up my PATA old drive data to a new WD external hard drive. I have both the old PATA and the new SATA hard drives installed in my computer. The old drive is connected to the motherboard. the new to a 4 port Inland PCI extension card. I have cloned the info from the old drive to the new drive. I have made a Rescue Media CD with PlusPack on it (I assume). How do I get that to the new hard drive. The BIOS doesnt see the new hard drive. How do I get the computer to boot the new drive?
