Can anyone tell me how to prevent Acronis from messing with my startup boot?

Thread needs solution

The day after installing Acronis TI 2015 I had a reboot problem with my PC based Win 7 64bit OS. Through the forum here I learned to use F8 and F12 boot sequencing to allow the computer to boot from the Win 7 OS disc. Periodically the problem reoccurs, even after I've tried to remove unseen Acronis interactions by 1.) changing my C: drive backup to non scheduled, and, 2.), removing Acronis anything from the start menu. I'm considering just deleting Acronis TI 2015 and trying another backup program, unless someone can tell me how to permanently prevent this reboot problem from happening again. I should also ask that if I should delete ACI 2015, will that cure the problem or will there be some leftover bit of software in the registry or wherever that gives the problem again and again.

Thanks in advance,
BAB

Hi Bruce,
Can you please be more specific? Acronis doesn't add or make changes to the "boot process" of a system it is installed to. You do have the options of creating an Acronis Secure Zone (ASZ), a hidden partition for storing back ups, or enabling Acronis Start Up & Recovery Manager (F11) which allows you to enter the recovery environment when the system boots. I guess the latter could be considered a modification to the boot process, but you have to purposely enable it, it doesn't just happen on its own.

The software does install services which run in the background or install as devices to enable features provided by the software. They do not however alter the (start up per se) of the system disk differently than another installed program, or affect your ability to press F8 or other function key to (for example) boot a windows machine into safe mode or select an alternate boot device on the fly. So can you clarify for us what the exact behavior is you are seeing and why you feel acronis is "messing with my startup boot"?

Sure. The day after I installed ATI 2015 the computer would not boot. From the forum here I learned how to boot from the OS disc (Win 7 64bit.) For a few days it was fine until I noticed the computer wasn't sleeping. I couldn't find anything that might cause that circumstance (there's a search command for that problem) but when shutting down the computer a message appeared, "Acronis is finishing (something) and the computer will log off in less than two minutes." Or words to that effect. Aha, says I. ATI is doing something ...... the next day discovered it was scheduling, or trying to schedule backups for two different hard drives, one an XP machine my wife currently is using, the other the C: drive on my current PC. (I used ATI for a couple years on the XP machine.) I only run my backup (external) hard drive when I want to back something up, which is maybe twice a week, so it couldn't find the C: drive backup for the current Win 7 machine. What I did was reconfigure ACI to not schedule backups......I backup the C: drive only when I change it, and/or maybe every month or two. Also, I went into the start menu and deleted everything from Acronis. After this I restarted the computer.....no problem. The next morning the computer wouldn't boot again. So I rebooted, again, using the OS disc. I figured, well I was messing with Acronis maybe I undid something that caused the original problem? How do I know. But this morning I had to reboot again.

I've never had this problem before installing Acronis TI 2015, and don't suspect there is any other cause. My current feeling is I'll delete ATI 2015, using the clean up program from Acronis and see what happens over the next couple weeks. Than I'll reload the program and pay more attention to the instructions and the initial configuration. I DO NOT want it running in the background. I have no need for that. I only use it to backup the C: drive because for whatever reason I can't get the MSN built-in backup software to back up the C: drive since I switched to an SSD. From what I see on the web, lots of others have the same problem. I wanted ATI for one simple process, but it's caused other problems I have little patience for. That said, however, I suspect there is a way to load ATI so it won't cause this particular problem. If you could clarify that process/click/configuration/whatever, I'd most appreciate same.

And thanks much,
BAB
