Can bootable CD be removed after boot has completed?

Can bootable CD be removed after boot has completed? I am sure I can eject CD but will Acronis still function correctly?

The plan is to boot from CD then eject CD drive from my laptop then insert second hard drive in the laptop instead of CD.
