Can I Boot from a TrueImage11 DVD backup

Thread needs solution

My hard disk recently failed and I hadn't performed any backups (slap wrist) even though I had owned a copy of TrueImage 11.0 for a while (slap wrists even harder). Anyway I used a spare hard disk I had lying around and rebuilt my system while I awaited the arrival of a new 1TB drive I purchased online. The disk has now arrived, I would like to know what is the easiest way to simply set the new drive to be like the temporary one I'm currently using? Bare in mind that I don't have any physical space for a 2nd drive in my chasis, although the motherboard does have an extra eSata connection. I was thinking of making a full backup onto DVD and then booting off of that with the new hard drive installed and restore in that manner, but will that work? Any suggestions welcome.

you want to restore across hardware changes ?
The restore may work, I'm no sure how windows will accept the changed configuration of different hard drives.
U may have to reinstall windows and restore to a second partition and then import your data.

Yes, you can do what you want.
1. Install True Image on the present drive and make the bootable Rescue CD.
2. Boot with the CD and make a Backup of the entire drive. You will need something like an external usb drive to hold this Backup/Image.
3. Remove the present drive and install the 1 Tb.
4. Boot with the Rescue CD and restore the Image to the 1 Tb.

If you do not have an external drive to hold the Image and if the size of the Image is about 10 or 12 Gb you can make the backup directly to dvd discs. It will span the discs automatically. In the restore process, be aware that the process will call for the same dvd as many as 3 or more times. It's a painstaking process but at least you will get the 1Tb to the same state as the temporary drive.

Many thanks for that. A quick question, do I need to boot from the CD and then make the backup or can I make the backup direct from Windows? Thanks.

You have to do this Backup from Windows.
When making the Backup on to DVD media, look carefully in the various windows that come up. After you choose the dvd drive as the place to back up to and you have chosen a name for the Backup file, look to the left for Backup Options then Removable Media Settings then the Advanced tab. Put a check mark in the items you want - you will need at least the item with the words Full Version.

Atif-

If you get a blue screen of death on the new system, it doesn't like the new hardware.

Replace the hal.dll file in the windows directory with the one from the original windoze disc. You can do this by booting from the original disc and choosing the repair option.
You will then need to re-install all your drivers, but all programmes etc should be installed ok.
