Can I Do This? (Windows 7 Partition Cloning to new SSD)

Thread needs solution

Hi, everyone ...

I realize that there are instructions as how to clone Windows drives to SSD's elsewhere in support, but I'm sufficiently clueless to need a little more explanation as to what I really need to do. I'm using ATI 2014, under Windows 7.

I currently have a single HDD, with three partitions (C:/, D:/, and E:/) along with the hidden system partition. I want to add a new SSD, making it the new boot drive, and moving the C:/ and D:/ partitions to the SSD, leaving E:/ on the old HDD. I'll probably need to resize all of the various partitions manually. I also have a separate network storage device, large enough to store any drive images I need to make.
I'd really like to accomplish all of this without having to re-install Windows.

Can I do all of this using ATI 2014, or do I need a separate partition management tool? And if I can do it with ATI, could someone please give me a detailed walkthough of which steps need to be taken, and in which order?

My signature link #3, item 1 inside that link can be your guide.
Have your Windows installation disk handy for a possible Startup Up Repair after the restore.
Do restore the Disk signature as refereced in the guide.
BE sure and boot after the restore with only the new SSD attached. The original disk must not be attached.

The clone function is at disk level so your only choice is to perform a backup and restore the backup.
It is best for the backup to be a disk image backup which includes C, D and E, but just restore
only the unlettered Windows system partition first and then the Windows user partition. Make sure your Windows C partition has a specific name and you know its size, etc as the drive letter may not match when booted from the TI Recovery CD.

Thanks, Grover ... that was exactly what I needed. :)

After mulling things over, I do have two more stupid questions for you ...

It looks like I'm going to need to use the Acronis Bootable Media version to move the system drive onto the new SSD. The storage device I'm using for all my backup data is a network drive, connected via my router. Is the Bootable Media version going to be able to see my network drive OK?

Also, how much storage does the Bootable Media version require on the flash drive I'm hoping to load it onto?

Thanks again ...

It may or may not see the storage device. You may ultimately need to have the storage device attached to the target computer as a usb device.

Don't remember the size flash drive. I believe 256K would work but use a 512 or larger--might be better.

Grover, I'm having a problem with the bootable media ... I've tried creating it twice onto a USB flash drive (4GB), and I get the same result. Everything seems to boot fine, and I get a text menu offering me options as to what I want to run. However, regardless of which application I choose, the result is the same -- I get a little loading message with the Acronis logo on it, then a completely blank screen. I have a x64 system if that matters.
