Can I install TI on an external drive and run it from there?

Thread needs solution

I have a fairly old SONY VAIO desktop with one hard disk partitioned into C: (14 GB) and D: (86 GB).

My C: drive contains only software and has only 16 MB free... I cannot handle Windows/McAfee/etc. updates any more. This is bad. My D: drive has about 60 GB free. This is good.

Before I resize the two partitions on my hard disk I need to create an Entire Disk Image backup, at least of D: because I want to remove the D: partition and resize C: to use all the space, and then copy onto the large C: whatever I had on my old D:. Sorrry if this is a bit wordy...

Knowing that I am completely out of space on my C: drive, which contains only software, can I download TI on my D: drive and could it run (if it needs space on C:, it won't find any...)?

Or, even better, could I download TI on an external drive and ask it to create an Entire Disk Image backup on this external drive?

Thank you...

Hello Bertrand,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

The best solution for you in this situation would be download ISO image of Acronis bootable disc and use it to create entire disk image. You can download ISO image after registering the serial number on your account under Registered Products.

You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD at:

http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm

http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

Another option would be to get a free/paid partition manager and expand the C part non-destructively. The space will be taken from D. Then you can install True Image on C.

Hello all,

Yes, such partitioning can be performed with our product - Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

The trial version of Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 is available here.

Trial version will show you how the software is going to work, however you will not be able to commit any changes. You can also create a small partition (7.8Mb)

Thank you.
