Can I remove a partition from an image?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I created a backup but accidentally selected two partitions when I meant to select one. Obviously, this is taking up more storage than I would like. Without restoring and re-imaging, is there a way to remove a folder or partition from an existing image?

Thanks!

No, it cannot be modified. You have what you have.

Remember, when you need to move to a new disk as a result of a problem or need more space, the type of backup that is easiest to implement your transfer is a backup which includes all partitions on the system disk (both hidden or diagnostic).

I have to disagree with Grover slightly on a technicality.

If you mount the image and select read/write then whilst mounted you could just press select the partition and click the delete button, then unmount the image. You might have two images in which case delete the main one and keep the one with the (1) after the file name.

Having said that, it is fraught with danger and as Grover mentions a complete disk especially if it is your system disk is a good idea.

If you really happy to not need this partition, and not too much has altered on your drive as far as programs /data or updates are concerned, then it'd be easier to remake the task, image what you wanted in the first place and then delete the old image and task.

Thank you Colin for correcting my oversight. I was aware that a mounted image could be modified bit I never considered deleting an entire drive from its contents. Something more for me to test.:)
